Lacrosse roundup: BG, Souhegan boys, Merrimack girls reach finals

The Bishop Guertin High School boys lacrosse team will be looking for its second-straight Division I title Wednesday when it takes on Pinkerton Academy in the final.

The Merrimack girls will go for their first title Monday when they face Portsmouth in the Division II final, while the Souhegan boys will play in a championship game for the first time since 2004 when they face Dover in the Division II title game Tuesday.

Division I boys

The No. 2 Cardinals returned to the final with a 15-6 win over No. 3 Hanover in the semifinals Sunday at Stellos Stadium. Bishop Guertin went up 6-1 early in the game and held off the Marauders the rest of the way. The Cardinals will take on No. 1 Pinkerton, which defeated No. 4 Exeter 10-7 in the other semifinal, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Stellos Stadium.

Pinkerton handed Bishop Guertin its only in-state loss during the regular season, a 9-8 win for the Astros in Derry.

Division II boys

No. 1 Souhegan, in its first year in the division, defeated No. 4 Bedford 13-12 in the semifinals Saturday night at Exeter High School to advance to a championship game for the first time since reaching the Division I final in 2004. The Sabers will be looking for the school's first boys lacrosse title in its fifth try.

Souhegan will face No. 2 Dover, which defeated No. 3 Bow 13-6 in the other semifinal, at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at Exeter. The Sabers won the lone regular-season matchup, beating the Green Wave 14-13 in overtime on May 25 to clinch the top seed in the division.

Division III boys

No. 4 Hopkinton handed No. 1 Kearsarge its first loss of the season, beating the Cougars 10-9 in the semifinals Saturday at Stellos Stadium. Hopkinton will face No. 10 Gilford, which pulled off its third upset of the tournament by beating No. 6 Pelham 7-6, in the final Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Stellos Stadium.

Division I girls

No. 3 Souhegan saw its season come to an end in a 12-11 loss to No. 2 Concord Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University. The Sabers held a 5-3 lead in the first half, but the Crimson Tide went on an 8-1 that spanned both halves to go up 11-6. But Souhegan came back and closed within one goal with a little more than four minutes to play.

Concord will face No. 1 Londonderry, which beat No. 4 Exeter 15-11 in the other semifinal, at 7 p.m. Monday at Southern New Hampshire University.

Division II girls

No. 2 Merrimack cruised into the final, scoring goals on its first 18 shots on the way to a 21-11 win over No. 6 Bedford Saturday afternoon at SNHU. The Tomahawks went up 17-5 with 12 minutes left in the first half to start the running clock, Lauren Perry had eight goals and Nicole Pelletier added five for Merrimack.

Merrimack will face No. 1 Portsmouth, which defeated No. 4 Bishop Guertin 16-14 to get some revenge for last year's title game loss to the Cardinals. The Clippers got out to an 8-0 lead on Bishop Guertin, but the Cardinals outscored Portsmouth 10-5 in the second, scoring the final five goals of the game before time ran out.

Portsmouth and Merrimack will meet at 5 p.m. Monday at SNHU; the Clippers won the regular-season meeting 19-9.

Division III girls

No. 3 Kingswood will make its first title game appearance after beating No. 2 Kearsarge 9-8 in the semifinals Sunday at SNHU. Kingswood will face No. 1 Plymouth, which defeated No. 4 Hopkinton 13-6, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at SNHU.
