MANCHESTER - Despite all the noise Tuesday night in the Stan Spirou Field House, Isabel Wrobleski could still hear a voice in the crowd, telling her to shoot.

With the Kennett High School girls basketball team trailing Lebanon in the fourth quarter of the Division II semifinals, the senior decided to take a chance.

Wrobleski's 3-pointer from the wing in front of the Kennett student section was good, giving the Eagles a lead they wouldn't surrender, and third-seeded Kennett held off No. 2 Lebanon for a 49-42 win at Southern New Hampshire University. The Eagles will face No. 1 Hanover, which beat No. 5 John Stark 63-30 in the other semifinal, in the title game Friday at 7 p.m. at SNHU.

The basket by Wrobleski gave Kennett (20-1) a 35-33 lead with 4:07 to play after the Raiders had taken the lead late in the third, and was only the Eagles' fourth made field since the 5-minute mark in the second quarter.

"One of my friends, a couple of days ago, he told me ‘jab step,'" Wrobleski said. "So I was standing there with the ball and he was yelling ‘jab, jab, jab.’ I was like whatever, jabbed, and it went in. It was a good moment."

Kennett went 8 of 9 at the line down the stretch and got 18 points from sophomore Maddie Stewart to advance to the title game for the first time since winning it all in 2010\. Wrobleski added 11 points and Cassidy Chick had five points and nine rebounds while guarding Lebanon's Rebecca Wright for most of the game.

"I thought Cassidy Chick did a great job all night on Becky Wright," Kennett coach Larry Meader said. "She’s a heck of a player. I thought Cassidy did a nice job staying with her all night and being physical. And she had backside help.

"Any time she gets the ball, you need to have at least two people on her. She is real good. I thought we did a good job of containing her, not eliminating her, because you’re not going to eliminate a player of that caliber."

Wright finished with 25 points, including a perfect 8 for 8 at the free throw line, and grabbed nine rebounds while Sally Rainey was also in double figures with 12 points, but no one else for Lebanon (19-2) had more than three points.

"I think our problem was that we didn’t transition very well and our guards didn’t look for their shots as much as they should have," Lebanon coach Tim Kehoe said. "We tried to run it through our bigs too much, and that could be my fault. I think our guards got tentative. We don’t have much experience up front this year with the guards. I think it showed a little bit. I think we played hard, I just don’t think we played a great basketball game, which happens."

Lebanon jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first 90 seconds, but Kennett came back and tied it at 9 on a 3-pointer by Elizabeth Cote. After the Raiders went back in front on a basket by Rainey, Wrobleski hit a 3, starting the Eagles on an 8-0 run to end the first quarter.

Up 17-11 after one, Kennett pushed its lead to eight, 22-14, with 5:01 left in the first half. But the Eagles struggled to hang on to the ball after that, committing four of their six first-half turnovers in the final 3:39 of the half.

Lebanon took advantage, going on a 7-0 run to end the half, including two baskets by Wright, to cut the lead to one. Kennett managed to cling to the lead for most of the third quarter, going up 27-23 on a basket by Stewart with 5:26 to go in the quarter.

But the Eagles struggled against the Raiders' zone and were just 4-of-20 shooting in the second and third quarters. Lebanon outscored Kennett 8-1 over the remainder of the third to lead 31-28 going into the fourth.

"The 2-3 (zones) that we’ve seen so far haven’t been that aggressive and as extended as that," Wrobleski said. "They really extended the top, which made our guards have to bring the ball up the sidelines and sometimes we struggled with that. They also extended the wings a little bit and we just couldn’t get the ball into the middle."

With the way Kennett started the game, Kehoe felt he needed to make the adjustment defensively, but eventually, the Eagles made adjustments of their own.

"I think our kids in man-to-man, we lost sight of the ball a lot, we gave up a lot of rub screens on the weakside and we gave up some 3s," he said. "We switched to a zone and we were more active in our zone. We got them to take quicker shots with hands in the face. We did a better job doing that. We switched it up in the third quarter."

A pair of free throws from Wright made it a 33-30 Lebanon lead with 5:49 to play, but Stewart was able to get to the basket on Kennett's next possession and scored to make it a one-point game. A few possession's later, Wrobleski missed on a layup, but Stewart got the offensive rebound and found Wrobleski on the perimeter for the 3 that put the Eagles up 35-33.

After a Lebanon turnover, Wrobleski hit jump shot near the free throw line to give Kennett a four-point lead, and a 3-pointer by Cole and two free throws from Elizabeth Kenny helped give the Eagles a 44-37 lead with 1:04 to go.

Wright answered with a layup - her only field goal of the fourth quarter - and Anna Wolke converted a three-point play to cut the lead to 44-42 with 45 seconds left. But the Raiders were forced to foul and Kennett made its free throws to put the game away.

"I think that as it came to crunch time, this team takes the adage that we’re not going to lose," Meader said. "We ramped up the defensive pressure on them. They dug deep at the end and had enough to pull it out."
