TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. –Chuckie Keenan rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Tyngsborough High School football team to a 21-0 win over Milford on Friday.

While Keenan was running through the Milford defense, the Spartans couldn't find a way to move the football.

“I haven’t seen anybody as good as them yet,” Jones said. “We just lot to a pretty good football team. Chuckie Keenan is as good as anybody we’ve ever seen. They gave us a lot of trouble up inside. (Lineman) Preedah Allan, we couldn’t handle him. He disrupted our offense. We have to go back to the drawing board and get off the ball and do a better job offensively.

Milford had 118 yards of offense, all but one of which came on the ground, and finished the game with just four first downs. The Spartans (2-1 overall) went three-and-out five times and punted seven times, after two consecutive weeks of running a nearly perfect ball-controlled offense.

Tyngsborough had 232 yards on offense, but the Tigers (2-0) had trouble moving the ball whenever someone else other than Keenan touched it.

“We weren’t moving the ball on offense, but defensively, I felt like we played pretty well the whole game, except for a handful of plays,” Jones said. “In the first half, three or four plays really made a difference of how the outcome of the first half went.”

One of those was on the game’s first possession, when Tyngsborough quarterback Garrett Glavin found Stephen Jacobs for a 15-yard gain on third-and-long that was good enough for a first down. Three plays later, Keenan raced up the middle untouched for a 59-yard touchdown.

Keenan’s second touchdown came after a Bud Theriault punt sailed just 20 yards, giving the Tigers a first down at Milford’s 40 midway through the second quarter. The junior running back capped a seven-play drive with a 9-yard run to make it 14-0 with 4:51 left in the half.

The Spartans got the game’s first turnover, recovering a fumbled snap by Glavin to set up the offense at the Tyngsborough 25 with 2:14 to play until halftime. But Milford gained just a yard and turned the ball over on downs.

Only three times did Milford move the ball over midfield, the last of which came on the final play of the first half. Mitchell Banuskevich scampered for 32 yards on the half’s last play, surprising the Tigers’ defense, but coming up 8 yards short of the end zone. Banuskevich, who played a few plays at quarterback and handled the return duties, led the Spartans with 54 yards on the ground.

“We didn’t have any offense at all,” Jones said. “(Banuskevich) is a sophomore, he’s got good speed and he’s elusive. We were trying to change it up and see what we can do differently. We’ll keep experimenting with that.”

Milford returns to its Division III schedule on Saturday, when it heads to Peterborough to face Con-Val for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
