South junior quarterback Chris Keefe rushed for 84 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries, and completed five of eight passes for 90 yards and a score to pace South to a 41-10 victory. “After not getting in last year, it was a heartbreaker,” Keefe said. “So to comeback and get in this year, it feels amazing.” Sophomore running back Josh Compoh ran for 74 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. His 40-yard punt return late in the first quarter set up a 3-yard scoring run on the next play by his brother, Jason, to give South a 6-0 lead. “We’ve been working hard this whole season, and we had a good week of practice preparing for this team and it showed,” Josh Compoh said. South (6-2) will get familiar with the team it will likely play in the Division I quarterfinals next Friday, when the Panthers host Exeter to conclude the regular season. The Panthers are likely to travel as the No. 3 seed in the East/West Cluster to second-seeded Exeter (7-1) on Nov. 9. “I’d prefer not to play a team two weeks in a row, but it is what it is,” South coach Scott Knight said. “Next week is going to be a good sparring session for the big bout. We’re just going to see how we matchup and see what we’re good at and what we’re not. If they have some success doing some things, we’re going to have to fix some things and I’m sure they’ll do the same thing. “It’s going to be pretty interesting playing eight quarters of football against those guys,” Knight added. Dover (2-6) committed 10 penalties in the opening quarter, including three on a short South drive that ended with a 3-yard touchdown keeper by Keefe. A 2-point conversion pass from Keefe to Jason Compoh gave South a 14-0 lead with one minute left in the first. “It was an emotional night with it being Senior Night, and as a team, they’re a pretty close group,” Dover coach Eric Cumba said. “Unfortunately, I think they let some of their emotions take control of them.” Keefe made his third start in relief of sophomore starting quarterback Michael Rumstein, who suffered a season-ending injury during a 21-6 loss to Nashua North. All Keefe has done since is rush for 208 yards and six touchdowns in leading South to an average of 29 points and three wins. “Right now, I’m feeling comfortable. Three weeks in, I didn’t think I’d feel this comfortable,” Keefe said. “The way the camaraderie exists among everyone and how we’re all coming together is just amazing.” Keefe couldn’t display his throwing skills during a rain-drenched 19-0 victory over Winnacunnet two weeks ago, but he completed nine of 17 passes for 113 yards in last week’s 27-0 win over Spaulding. His throwing continued its upward trend in minimal opportunities on Friday, highlighted by a 35-yard completion on third-and-13 to Kyle O’Connor. Keefe then completed the drive on the next play with a 2-yard keeper to give South a 20-0 lead with 9:34 left in the second quarter. A 23-yard completion from Keefe to Connor Roswell on South’s next drive helped set up Josh Compoh’s 1-yard scoring run. Jason Compoh’s 2-point conversion run gave the Panthers a 28-0 lead with 4:58 left in the second. “I’m actually surprised with how well (Keefe) has come in and done,” Josh Compoh said. “He’s just done everything he needs to do. He makes plays.” After a 22-yard completion to Jacob Smith, Keefe threw his first touchdown pass of the season to O’Connor from 3 yards out to give South a 34-0 lead entering halftime. Keefe took a keeper on the third play of the second half 55 yards for a touchdown to boost South to a 41-0 lead. “The throw he made (to O’Connor) was a rocket,” Knight said. “Last week, he made some great throws and he’s clearly a threat. He’s so explosive.” Dover’s highlights came via Luke Geppert’s 52-yard touchdown run in the third and Max Casey’s 39-yard field goal in the fourth. South now has the challenge over the course of the next two weeks to solve an Exeter team who has averaged a 27-point margin of victory and whose only loss came at last that second, 31-28, to undefeated North (8-0). “It’s going to be a physical game and I like how we matchup,” Knight said. “They’re backs run hard, they're solid on defense and they game plan really well. They got a lot of bodies, good depth, and we’re going to have to play our best football.”
