HOLLIS - The Hollis Brookline High School wrestling team stayed unbeaten in dual meets Wednesday by beating Bishop Guertin 56-18.

The Cavaliers won four of the six matches contested and won five others by forfeit, but coach Brian Bumpus wasn't sure which wrestlers were going to get matches going in and which weren't.

"Seeing what they weighed in, we weren't sure where guys were going to end up," he said. "I wasn't sure if (Bishop Guertin coach Paul Rousseau) was going to bump guys around. Before the match, we said everybody needed to be ready to wrestle because they could have moved someone to one weight, or ended up a different weight. It's always kind of a tossup when guys weigh in like that."

Wyatt Farwell (170 pounds) and Kayne Robert (195) each pinned his opponent in under a minute for HB, as did Bishop Guertin's Brandon Levesque (152) .

"It's tough," Rousseau said of the quick matches. "(Levesque) is a classy kid and he's all business, he doesn't embarrass kids. He does his job and him wrestling a minute is a pat on his back."

"I've been lucky to see him wrestle in the offseason," Bumpus said of Levesque. "Unfortunately, we were really hoping to have him wrestle Chris Lopez, but (Tuesday), Chris came down with some sort of infection. With the trip coming up this weekend (to Virginia), we'd rather have him close to a hundred percent for the weekend. Brandon is a kid who is tough to coach against. He's one of the best."

Jacob Bue (113) also recorded a pin for the Cardinals, while HB's Nick McPherson won his match, 12-0, at 145 and Andrew Butler won, 14-0, at 160.

"It's a double-edged sword," Bumpus said. "It's a nice confidence booster that they can go out there and win like that. But at the same time, having those six-minute matches goes a long way. When we start getting into the postseason, they're going to have to be able to wrestle a six-minute match. If they're not getting those consistently throughout the season, when they end up in one, you’re not sure how they’re going to react to it. That's why we go to Saratoga and Virginia. They're going to get those matches."

HB is back in action Friday and Saturday at the Virginia Duals in Hampton, while Bishop Guertin will host Kearsarge and White Mountains.
