HOLLIS - Of all the photos shared Wednesday night of the seniors on the Hollis Brookline High School girls volleyball, the one that stood out the most to Becky Balfour was from a while ago.

Mixed in the collage of pictures was a group shot of the seniors from when they played together long before high school. They've played alongside one another for a long time, and many of them have been a big part of the Cavaliers' championship run of the last four years.

That experience was on display again against Nashua North, as HB weathered two close games to open the match with the Titans and took control of the third one early for a 3-0 win in the Cavs' final home match of the Division I regular season. The win also extends HB's winning streak to 71 straight matches.

"These girls have been playing together forever," Balfour said. "If you looked out at the collages (in the lobby) there are pictures of them together when they were little elementary-age kids. This team, there is such good chemistry and camaraderie and they truly care about each other."

Maren Anderson led HB (17-0) with 15 kills and Kaleigh Whalen had 12 kills as the Cavs won by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16\. Sydney Powers also had four kills and Ellie Jordan had three aces and nine digs while Sammie Sheppard had nine digs and Lauren Ingraham had four digs.

North (8-9) got seven kills, two aces and 12 digs from Abby Coy while Alexis Miranda had four kills and three blocks and Kelsey Laliberte had eight kills.

"They played really well," North coach Nicole Fitzgibbons said. "It’s nice to come in on the atmosphere of someone’s senior night. The energy is up and there is a good fan section. It’s good to come and work."

In the first game, the Cavs led from start to finish, but the Titans were able to keep things close after falling behind 10-3\. The teams traded 17 straight points, as HB turned a 13-11 advantage into a 21-18 lead before winning the final four points to take a 1-0 lead.

"We’ve learned over the years that no matter what game it is, we treat it the same," Whalen said. "I felt like we’ve been doing that pretty well this year. We’re expecting every team to play even with us, and with that expectation, we come out playing very well."

North was able to grab an early lead in the second set, going up 5-2 before HB came back, going on a 5-0 run behind the serving of Meg Coutu to go up 7-5\. The Cavs' lead stretched to 15-11 before the Titans were able to start chipping away.

With Coy and Laliberte serving, North won seven of eight points to take an 18-16 lead.

"I think it was a team dynamic of trying to use all of our assets and keep our heads in it," Fitzgibbons said of North's rally. "Try to make sure we’re all set all the way around and minimizing errors because they are a very talented team."

But after the Titans went up 19-17, the Cavs responded with a 7-0 run to take a 24-19 lead and held on for the win.

"To be down and buckle down, chip away, and take the game, that gave us a lot of momentum going into the third set," Balfour said. "We try to push them in practice. That way when we get into the game, it’s not as stressful."

HB used the momentum to take a 10-3 lead in the third set, and although North was able to stay in it early, the Cavs pulled away, going up 21-12 before closing out the sweep.

"We love competition and getting better," Anderson said. "It was good for us to see that and going into playoffs, we’re definitely going to see more of it. We’ve learned from past experiences. It’s taught us how to deal with maybe being behind and get the momentum to come back."

North will finish its regular season Thursday, as the Titans host Keene, while HB travels to Londonderry for its final regular-season match on Friday.
