Goffstown's Bourque named New Hampshire's Gatorade Football Player of the Year
Gofftowns' Bourque named Gatorade Player of the Year for New Hampshire
Connor Bourque has one more accolade to add to his impressive high school resume.
The Goffstown High School senior was named New Hampshire's Gatorade Football Player of the Year on Thursday, winning the award after helping the Grizzlies to a 12-0 record and the Division I championship, the program's first football title.
Bourque rushed for 1,554 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while also catching 17 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, and in a win over Manchester Central in mid-October, scored seven touchdowns.
"He's a better kid than he is a football player," Goffstown coach Justin Hufft said after that game. "I can't say that enough. He's such a great kid and he works so hard. He's so humble. He's a great student."
Bourque is a two-time first-team all-conference player and has maintained a B average in the classroom. He has volunteered locally as a cook at the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester and has also donated his time as a youth football coach and middle school wrestling team assistant.
"Connor Bourque impacts the game in so many ways," Concord coach Eric Brown said. "As a kick/punt returner, you try not to kick to him. His performance on offense speaks for itself with his season stats."
In the postseason, Bourque rushed for 498 yards and had six touchdowns, including 211 yards and three touchdowns in the championship game win over Exeter.
Bourque is the first Goffstown player to receive the award.
