GOFFSTOWN - There wasn't much for the Goffstown High School football team to go over at halftime of Saturday's Division I quarterfinal.

The Grizzlies just had to execute a little better on both sides of the ball than they had in the first 24 minutes.

Goffstown did just that, opening the third quarter with a 10-play touchdown drive and getting three interceptions on defense, as the Grizzlies pulled away in the second half for a 35-7 win over Bedford. The win sends Goffstown to the D1 semifinals, where it will face Winnacunnet on Saturday at a time and place to be determined.

Jarrett Henault threw three touchdown passes in the second half and finished the game 7 of 10 passing for 112 yards while also rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Two of the scoring tosses went to Caden Perry and Jeremy Henault also caught a touchdown pass.

"Just like in any halftime, you’re going to make your adjustments," Goffstown coach Nick Hammond said. "We didn’t really overhaul anything. We were just able to come out and play and execute the way we needed to. I think we got off the field on defense (in the second half) and I think we were able to sustain drives on offense more consistently."

Goffstown (7-0) got second-half interceptions from Michael Levesque, Uziel Mpoyo and Seth Osborne, who returned his pick 22 yards for a touchdown to finish out the scoring with 2:23 left in the game.

Mikol was 7 of 23 for 131 yards for the Bulldogs, with their lone score coming on the quarterback's 31-yard completion to Aaron Skaling that gave Bedford a 7-0 lead with 11:19 left in the second quarter.

That touchdown was part of a first half in which Bedford (4-3) had the ball for more than 14 minutes and rushed for over a hundred yards.

"If you’re able to run the football, their offense is on the sideline," Bedford coach Zach Matthews said. "You’re hoping to control some of that offensive output and some of those problems they create for you on defense. That was the game plan, try to keep the football and keep their offense on the sideline."

The Grizzlies answered Bedford's touchdown with a 10-play, 65-yard drive, tying the game on Jarrett Henault's 9-yard scoring run with 7:05 left in the first half. The Bulldogs looked like they might answer right back, putting together a 10-play drive of their own down to the Grizzlies' 20.

But the drive stalled and Mikol's 37-yard field goal attempt came up short, and the teams eventually went into the half tied at 7.

"A few minor things that were different, but it was the same Bedford team we’ve seen all year," Hammond said. "We just needed to make some small adjustments and tackle better."

Goffstown put those adjustments to work, opening the second half with a 10-play, 50-yard drive that put the Grizzlies up 14-7 when Henault connected with Perry for a 7-yard touchdown.

Bedford again looked like it would answer Goffstown's touchdown drive to open the third, getting a 58-yard catch-and-run from Mikol to Dylan Kumbani for a first down at the Grizzlies' 16\. But a holding call pushed Bedford back and on third down, Mikol was picked off by Levesque, who returned it to Goffstown's 46.

Six plays later, Henault hit Perry for a 30-yard score, making it 21-7 Goffstown with 2:24 left in the third.

"There are a ton of mistakes there, shooting ourselves in the foot," Matthews said. "Missed assignments, penalties and turnovers was the deal in the second half, and then you’re trying to make too much happen. You’re behind and trying to get it all back in one play, and obviously, it snowballs on us there."

The Henault brothers connected on a 43-yard touchdown pass with 2:31 left in the game to make it 28-7, and on Bedford's next play, Osborne picked off Mikol and brought it all the way back for the final score just eight seconds later.
