The Grizzlies (2-0), who overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to beat Pinkerton Academy last week, scored the game’s final 18 points and shut out Windham (0-2) in the second half. “We were on our heels the first half,” Hufft said. “I thought Windham’s offense was really clicking. They did some great stuff. Second half, I thought we did some good halftime adjustments and the kids just really buckled down in the second half." The Grizzlies’ biggest stop came on Windham’s second drive of the second half. On a fourth-and-6 play from Windham’s 24-yard line, Jaguars quarterback Rocky Heres threw an incomplete pass intended for Joey Dasilva, resulting in a turnover on downs. It took Goffstown’s offense four plays following the defensive stop to punch in the game-winning touchdown. Zach Picard capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. Kyle Pinard, who drilled a 27-yard field goal on Goffstown’s previous drive to pull his team within three points, made the point-after kick to build an 18-14 Grizzlies advantage with 2:25 remaining in the third quarter. “Just because you take over in good field position doesn’t mean you’re going to score,” Hufft said. “We did on some. We didn’t on others (Saturday). I wish we had finished drives better but I think the offense was able to kind of feed off the defense there in the second half.” Windham first-year coach Jack Byrne said his staff’s decision to go for it on the fourth-and-6 play was not an emotional one made in the moment but a calculated one made during scouting earlier in the week. “Those decisions are made back on Tuesday or Wednesday so that we’re not losing our minds on the day of,” Byrne said. “If we look at certain alignments and we look at certain things, if we’re going to have a situation where it’s throw-and-catch, we trust our guys 100 percent. If they can play catch in the backyard and someone is going to be open because of an alignment issue that we’ve scouted, why are we going to punt it?” The Jaguars went three-and-out twice and did not enter Goffstown territory in the second half. The Grizzlies ran out the final 3:47 of the game after Windham punted the ball away on a fourth-and-7 play from its 30-yard line on its final offensive drive. Windham led, 14-8, at halftime and nearly extended its lead in the closing seconds of the second quarter. Heres (4 of 9 passing, 164 yards, interception) connected with Dasilva for a 27-yard pass that put the ball at the Goffstown 3-yard line but Windham could not get another play off before the halftime whistle blew. The Jaguars scored on two of their first three drives to jump out to a 14-0 lead. Heres and Dasilva connected over the middle for an 86-yard catch-and-run touchdown and Adam Burke followed up with the extra-point kick to give the Jaguars a 7-0 advantage with 3:58 left in the opening quarter. The Jaguars then drove 65 yards on eight plays on their next drive to take a 14-point lead with 9:28 remaining in the first half. Heres (seven carries, 23 yards) scored Windham’s second TD on an 11-yard quarterback keeper up the middle. Goffstown trimmed the Jaguars’ lead to six points with 1:38 remaining in the first half, when Jarrett Henault connected with Jonah Lopez for a 12-yard touchdown and then ran in the two-point conversion to cap a five-play, 40-yard drive. Henault completed four of his eight pass attempts for 30 yards, threw two interceptions and was sacked once. He also ran for a game-high 113 yards on 27 carries. Picard ran 17 times for 60 yards. “Our offensive line dominated,” Henault said. “That’s what we need. It starts in the front lines. My passing game, it probably wasn’t where I wanted it to be but that didn’t matter. My O-line took care of it.” Caden Perry made an interception on defense for Goffstown. Dasilva logged three receptions for a game-high 153 yards. Riley Desmarais ran for a team-high 47 yards on 15 carries and made an interception on defense for the Jaguars. Teammate Cole Peterson also intercepted a Henault pass. “Obviously, the football gods are going to make us wait a little bit (to win),” Byrne said. “But that’s what’s so good about this sport is guys like Justin (Hufft) and that staff over there have been winning for a long time and working really hard for a long time. We're going to have to earn it and keep putting our head down and we’re glad it’s not easy. It stinks to lose but we’re glad that it’s not easy.”
