GOFFSTOWN - The Goffstown High School football team needed to find a way to jump start its offense.

Fortunately, the Grizzlies had the answer already on the field.

A week after getting one touch on offense, Andrew Duval turned two short passes from Charlie Keith into touchdowns and the Goffstown defense kept Bedford in check on the way to a 21-7 win over the Bulldogs in a Division I North Conference game.

Duval had five carries for 53 yards and turned his two catches into scores for another 66 yards, as the Grizzlies (5-1) rebounded from a 9-6 loss to Winnacunnet last week in which they had just one first down in the second half.

"Last week, I thought we were managing well," Goffstown coach Justin Hufft said. "Andrew is still an impactful player. When they double and triple cover him, other stuff is open. He can be effective that way, but he did only have one touch last week.

"We designed to get him the ball more. Bedford did their best to take him away and he made some plays where there was not much and Andrew just kind of does his thing."

Keith finished 5 of 7 passing for 146 yards and three touchdowns, including a 9-yard strike to Jared Heidenreich in the first quarter, and the senior quarterback also had 39 yards rushing. Jack Stinnett added 66 yards on the ground as Goffstown took a 14-0 lead in the first half and went to its ground game in the fourth quarter to clinch the win.

With the Grizzlies up two scores, Bedford (3-3) drove down to the Goffstown 11-yard line, but turned the ball over on downs with 8:18 left in the game. The Bulldogs didn't see the ball again until only 2:22 remained, and on Bedford's final two possessions, Thomas Morgan was picked off by Carter Chouinard and Coleman Handrahan, respectively.

"Goffstown played a great game and they’re a good football team," Bedford coach Derek Stank said. "They put us in a poor position and our boys were able to respond, get us back into the game. We got some situations where we got points on the board and got more opportunities to score, we just weren’t able to finish."

Morgan finished the game 12 of 24 for 140 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in his first game since senior quarterback Connor Robert was ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken collarbone. Noah Chabarek had three catches for 32 yards and a score and Cole Glennon also caught three passes for 45 yards, but Goffstown was able to get to Morgan, as the Grizzlies recorded five sacks.

"I think they took advantage of the fact we had a new quarterback stepping into a very big role against a good defense," Stank said. "They did a pretty good job of taking advantage of that. At the end of the day, we just didn’t do enough things right, and they did."

The win was also the fourth time in six games the Grizzlies have held their opponent under 10 points, as they've allowed just 66 points all year.

"Defensively, we’ve got guys flying around," Hufft said. "We were on our heels a little bit, which was new. (It was big) being able to bear down when we had to and get off the field."

Goffstown heads to Gill Stadium on Friday to take on Manchester Central (5-1) in a game that could decided the winner of the North Conference. Meanwhile Bedford will try to keep its postseason hopes alive at Concord (2-4) on Saturday.
