Girls basketball rankings for Feb. 22

Two teams sit at the top of the final girls basketball rankings of the regular season, as both head into their respective division playoffs with an undefeated record.

Sunapee High School is once again at the top of the state rankings, but this week, is joined by Gilford, which is also undefeated in Division III. Bishop Guertin jumps two spots to No. 3, switching places with Portsmouth, which is now at No. 5. Conant stayed in between the two at No. 4.

Here are the full state-wide rankings and the rankings for each division. This will be final girls rankings of the regular season. Final rankings will be done after all the tournaments are done on March 14.

How the rankings are done

We took the NHIAA’s football rating system, and gave it a little tweak. Instead of 10 points for a win, we weighted the wins by division, giving 12 for a win over a D1 team, 10 for a win over D2, eight for a win over D3, and six for a win over D4. Plus, every team got two points for a win by a beaten opponent. The two point totals were added together and divided by the number of games played.
