Girls basketball rankings for Feb. 15

For the third week in a row, the Sunapee High School girls basketball team sits at the top of the state rankings.

The Lakers have been impressive in defense of last year's Division IV title, averaging over 71 points per game and their closest game this year was an 18-point win over Littleton, which has lost just once this season.

Gilford moves up to No. 2 in the rankings, switching places with Conant, which moved to No. 5, while Portsmouth jumps up to the No. 3 spot. Bishop Guertin rounds out the top five.

Here are the state-wide rankings along with the rankings for each division. The rankings will be updated each week during the regular season.

How the rankings are done

We took the NHIAA’s football rating system, and gave it a little tweak. Instead of 10 points for a win, we weighted the wins by division, giving 12 for a win over a D1 team, 10 for a win over D2, eight for a win over D3, and six for a win over D4. Plus, every team got two points for a win by a beaten opponent. The two point totals were added together and divided by the number of games played.
