Football schedule for Week 2

Here's a look at the slate of games for the second week of New Hampshire high school football.

Division I

Nashua North at Alvirne, Friday, 7 p.m.

Sure, the Titans (0-1) lost big to Bedford last week, 48-0, but they didn't do themselves any favors with turnovers and penalties. North did see some flashes on offense from quarterback Jeff Baldassari along with Jordan Buckmire and Devin Leonard. Alvirne (0-1) was stunned by Keene last week but got a big game from Brad Kamal (164 yards rushing, two scores).

Bishop Guertin at Concord, Friday, 7 p.m.

The Cardinals' new coach Jeff Moore introduced himself to New Hampshire football with a blowout of Manchester Central. Bishop Guertin (1-0) got a monster game from Jordan Hiscoe, who whent 16 of 18 for 225 yards and five touchdowns, three of which went to Nick Lorden. Concord (0-1) hopes to avoid dropping its first two after a 42-7 drubbing by Goffstown.

Bedford at Nashua South, Friday, 7 p.m.

Bedford (1-0) seems to have some suitable replacements for the skill players it lost, with junior Nick Leahy (three rushing touchdowns) and sophomore quarterback Connor Robert leading the way. South (1-0) trailed late in the first half and couldn't pull away from Manchester Memorial until the second half. Mitch Coy ran for two scores for the Panthers and Sean Holland threw for two more and South also recorded two safeties.

Pinkerton at Portsmouth, Friday, 7 p.m.

With running back TJ Urbanik likely out for the season, the Astros (1-0) turned to other players in their win over Spaulding. Mike Curley had two short touchdown runs, Ryan Albrecht threw for another score and Brett Dattillo had a kickoff return for one more. Portsmouth (0-1) couldn't find a way to stop Merrimack in its opener, allowing over 500 yards of offense. Cody Graham made his first start at quarterback, throwing for 284 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Dover at Salem, Friday, 7 p.m.

The Green Wave (0-1) hung with Londonderry early, but ultimately gave in in a 55-24 loss. Dover had 249 yards on offense, but just 39 of that was on the ground. Salem (1-0) escaped its opener with a win, scoring twice in the final nine minutes to beat Winnacunnet on a 42-yard touchdown run by Nick Shumski.

Exeter at Spaulding, Friday, 7 p.m.

Exeter (1-0) ground out an opening-day win over Timberlane, thanks in part to Kyle Ball's 150 yards rushing. The tough start for Spaulding (0-1) continues, as the Red Raiders go from Pinkerton to the Blue Hawks in consecutive weeks.

Merrimack at Winnacunnet, Friday, 7 p.m.

Justin Grassini played like he's been in first-year coach Kip Jackson's offense all his life, throwing for 368 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Tomahawks (1-0). Winnacunnet (0-1) was in control of its game against Salem, leading 21-14 in the third quarter and were up 21-20 with 8:32 left, but couldn't hold on.

Londonderry at Timberlane, Friday, 6:30 p.m.

Ben Johnson had a big day for Londonderry (1-0) in the win over Dover, going for a combine 340 yards rushing and passing, to go with four touchdowns. It could be tough to repeat that performance against a Timberlane defense that Exeter to just 14 points. Unfortunately for the Owls (0-1), they managed just 27 yards in the first half.

Keene at Goffstown, Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

Two surprises here, as Keene (1-0) enters undefeated after besting Alvirne while Goffstown (1-0) stunned Concord last week. The Blackbirds trailed in the second half but scored 14 unanswered points to get the win. The Grizzlies were clicking on offense, scoring 28 points in the first half against Concord.

Manchester Central at Manchester Memorial, Saturday, 2 p.m.

Both teams are likely to want to forget about the opening weekend as soon as possible. Central (0-1) was on the wrong end of Bishop Guertin's new uptempo offense while Memorial (0-1) blew a 10-point lead. The loser will likely be all but out of the playoff picture in a stacked North Conference.

Division II

Milford at Hollis Brookline, Friday, 7 p.m.

The Cavaliers (0-1) have once again rented lights and will host rival Milford (1-0) on a Friday night. Milford's offense road Bryce Walker to last week's 27-20 win over John Stark, as the senior had 171 yards rushing and two touchdowns. HB got a big game from quarterback Joey Delaney, who threw for 264 yards and had a touchdown rushing and passing.

Hanover at Kingswood, Friday, 7 p.m.

The season starts this week for the Marauders and the Knights, as both had a bye last week.

Plymouth at Lebanon, Friday, 7 p.m.

The clock should keep moving in this game, as both teams ran the ball all over the place in opening-day wins. Plymouth (1-0) rushed for 578 yards in its win over Rutland (Vt.), with Garrett Macomber leading the way with 185 and three touchdowns. Lebanon (1-0) got 137 yards rushing from Ryan Milliken in its win over Laconia.

Manchester West at Merrimack Valley, Friday, 7 p.m.

Both teams suffered big defeats last week, with West (0-1) falling to Trinity by 51 points, and Merrimack Valley (0-1) losing to Kennett by 30.

Laconia at Monadnock, Friday, 7 p.m.

Another meeting between teams that dropped their season openers, although in very different ways. Laconia (0-1), with several sophomores in its starting lineup, couldn't stop Lebanon, although the Sachems did get 133 yards of offense from Kyle Chiasson. Monadnock (0-1) had a chance to beat Souhegan, but lost a fumble at the 1-yard line in the final minute of a 13-12 loss. Quarterback J.T. Cloutier did throw for two touchdowns in the loss.

Windham at Trinity, Friday, 7 p.m.

This game could have a big affect on not just who wins the South Conference, but who gets into the postseason. Windham quarterback Griffin Lippold did his best impression of Brendan McInnis, throwing for 154 yards and three touchdowns in a win over HB for the Jaguars (1-0). Trinity (1-0) rushed for 227 yards and led West 51-0 at halftime last week. Saikou Bah had 70 yard rushing on four carriers and also returned a kickoff 85 yards for a score.

ConVal at John Stark, Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

Both teams did better than expected last weekend, although ConVal (1-0) was the one that came away with a win. Sophomore quarterback Dan Spezzaferri, making his first varsity start, threw for four touchdowns and ran for two more in the Cougars' win over Pelham. John Stark (0-1) had a 14-7 lead over Milford in the first half, but fell behind in the second and the Generals comeback wasn't enough.

Pembroke at St. Thomas, Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

Stephen Hedberg threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns as St. Thomas (1-0) scored 60 points in its win over Sanborn. Things could be worse for Pembroke (0-1), which gave up 43 points last week to Kearsarge.

Kennett at Kearsarge, Saturday, 6:30 p.m.

Another game that could greatly affect the division playoff field, both North Conference teams had stellar offensive performances in Week 1. Kennett (1-0) got a big day against Merrimack Valley from quarterback Will Pollard, who ran for two touchdowns and threw four touchdown passes, three of which went to Drew McDonald. Kearsarge (1-0) got rushing touchdowns from four different players and also scored twice on special teams against Pembroke.

Division III

Gilford at Bow, Friday, 7 p.m.

These two potential playoff teams had very different opening games. Gilford (0-1) was thumped by Franklin, 28-0, while Bow (1-0) got revenge for last year's semifinal loss to Campbell, winning 42-6 behind Chris Robbins' two rushing touchdowns. The Falcons scored 27 points in the third quarter to blow the game open.

Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough at Somersworth, Friday, 7 p.m.

One of two matches up between 1-0 teams from different conferences. ILM cruised past Fall Mountain behind Andrew and Nick Brothers, while Somersworth needed a late touchdown run from quarterback Matt Menz to beat Farmington-Nute.

Stevens at Epping-Newmarket, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Just about everything went right for Stevens (1-0) in its 42-0 win over Newfound. Richard Bell scored three touchdowns and quarterback Henri Borque threw for 155 yards. Epping-Newmarket (0-1) led Bishop Brady 14-0 in the first quarter last week before giving up 20 unanswered points.

Raymond at Fall Mountain, Saturday, 7 p.m.

These two teams haven't played since the second week of the 2013 season, which Fall Mountain won 28-20. Raymond's two wins last year were its first since winning the finale of the 2010 season, a streak of over 30 games. Since returning to varsity football for that 2013 season, the Wildcats have gone 3-14.

Bishop Brady at Franklin, Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

The other game this week that features 1-0 teams from different conferences. The Giants managed to escape with a six-point win over Epping-Newmarket last week, while the Golden Tornadoes had their way with Gilford, winning 28-0. Bishop Brady, which was a pass-heavy team a season ago, got 263 yards rushing from Moses Murenzi in the win.

Farmington-Nute at Newfound, Saturday, 2 p.m.

The Tigers (0-1) were close to knocking off Somersworth last week, but gave up a late touchdown to drop their opener. Newfound (0-1) was shut out by Stevens, as its losing streak reached 14 games.

Campbell at Newport, Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

Maybe the best news for Campbell (0-1) is that it got blown out by Bow in the first game last year and ended up wining the division. It doesn't get easier with the Cougars heading to Newport, the team they beat in the final. The Tigers (1-0) are coming off a 35-0 win over Mascoma Valley in which they scored on their first three possessions and five of six.

Mascoma Valley at Winnisquam, Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

Christian Serrano showed in Winnisquam's 39-14 win over Raymond he could throw the ball, too, tossing a pair of touchdown passes in his first action at quarterback. The senior could have another big game for the Bears (1-0) against Mascoma (0-1), which struggled to stop Newport last week.
