Football divisions for 2013 among NHIAA's recent changes

The NHIAA's June newsletter is packed full of important information for high school student-athletes, coaches and fans, but perhaps the one things everyone had been waiting for is there - divisions for the 2013 football season.

The football committee was given the task of coming up with a new alignment by April 1, one that contained five or less divisions, and the group did so. And for the one season, football will "experiment for one year with a three division format."

Within each division are three conferences, broken up into region. There will be four conference winners in each division, and a champion and runner-up in each division, according to the newsletter. See below for the division breakdown.

Play-in out

In other news, the NHIAA Council has elected to end the two -year play-in experiment for Division III baseball, softball, soccer and basketball. Instead, those sports in Division III will feature a 20-team tournament.

New member

Mount Royal Academy in Sunapee has received approval to become a NHIAA member. The school will play a sub-varsity schedule in five boys sports and four girls sports in 2012-13, and move up to varsity schedules the following year.

Change to NH Index Plan

The points system that has been used the last two seasons to determine playoff seeding (except in football) will remain, but the extra point awarded for road wins has been eliminated.
