The spring high school season gets into high gear on Monday with the start of baseball, softball and boys and girls lacrosse, and few local teams get right into the action off the bat.

In Division II baseball, Bedford, last year's Class I runner-up, plays host to Souhegan, one of last year's top teams. The Bulldogs and Sabers both return most of their teams from a year ago, making them among the handful of favorites in the division this year.

Souhegan returns seven seniors from a team that went 13-4 last season, but was upset in the first round of the playoffs. Bedford bounced back from a 3-4 start last year to reach the final, upsetting the No. 2 and 3 seeds in the tournament. The teams will meet Monday at 4:15 p.m.

### 2\. Bishop Guertin at Derryfield girls tennis, Monday, 4 p.m.

A matchup of two champions from a year ago - Bishop Guertin won its first title since 2005, taking the crown in Class L last year, while Derryfield won its third straight Class M-S title. The Cougars moved up to Division I this year and will open the season by hosting a Cardinals team that returns eight players who got varsity experience a year ago. Although there's a lot of tennis to be played, this match could determine playoff seeding.

### 3\. Londonderry at Alvirne softball, Friday, 4 p.m.

Alvirne hosts last year's Class L runner-up in a Division I game. The Broncos return almost all of a team that finished third during the regular season, but was upset in the opening round of the playoffs.

### 4\. Hollis/Brookline at Nashua South girls lacrosse, Wednesday, 4 p.m.

After winning the last two Division III titles - going 30-0 against division opponents - the Cavaliers moved up to Division I this season. Wednesday's matchup against the Panthers will be H/B's first in its new division.

### 5\. Lin-Wood at Wilton-Lyndeborough softball, Wednesday, 4 p.m.

These two teams played each other regularly during the regular season until last year, when their only meeting came in the Class S semifinals. The Warriors won that game 5-0 on the way to their sixth straight championship game appearance. W-L will start its quest for a Division IV title - and put its 100-plus home win streak on the line.
