# Five teams enter softball playoffs undefeated

Five high school softball teams, three from the Greater Nashua area, are undefeated going into the postseason tournaments, which begin Wednesday.

In each division the top seed is unbeaten - Salem (Division I), Hollis Brookline (Division II), Campbell (Division III) and Wilton-Lyndeborough (Division IV). Gilford, the second seed in Division III, also takes an unblemished record into the playoffs.

### Division I

No. 1 Salem (19-0) plays host to No. 16 Keene (2-17) at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the preliminary round. The Blue Devils won the regular-season meeting 14-2 on May 16, which was the last time Salem has been scored upon. Salem has recorded 14 shutouts this year and allowed only 19 runs all season.

The winner will take on either No. 8 Dover (10-8) or No. 9 Manchester Central (11-8) in the quarterfinals. Dover will host Central Wednesday at 4 p.m.

No. 5 Merrimack (11-7) enters the playoffs having lost three in a row, including a 5-4 loss to No. 12 Nashua South (7-11) on May 17\. The Tomahawks will host the Panthers at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The winner of that game will face the winner of No. 4 Pinkerton (12-6) and No. 13 Exeter (6-12), who also play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 3 Alvirne (14-4), the defending champion, hosts No. 14 Timberlane (6-12) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The Broncos won the regular-season meeting, 5-4, on May 7, but since that game, Alvirne has gone just 4-3.

The winner will take on either No. 6 Concord (11-7) or No. 11 Spaulding (7-11) in the quarterfinals. The Crimson Tide host the Red Raiders at 3:3o p.m. on Wednesday.

Bishop Guertin (10-8) won its final three games to earn the 10th seed and will play at No. 7 Winnacunnet (10-8) at 4 p.m. in Hampton. The Cardinals won the regular-season meeting 2-0 on May 10.

The winner will get the winner of No. 2 Londonderry (16-3) and No. 15 Manchester Memorial (5-14) in the quarterfinals. The Lancers will host the Crusaders at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

All quarterfinal games are scheduled for 4 p.m. on June 2 at the home of the higher seed. The semifinals will be June 5, starting at 5 p.m., at Southern New Hampshire University, and the final is scheduled for June 9 at 7 p.m. at SNHU.

### Division II

Last year, Hollis Brookline made its first championship game appearance, falling to Laconia in the division final. This year, the Cavaliers (17-0) are in a good position to get back.

HB is the No. 1 seed going into Wednesday's preliminary-round game against No. 16 Windham (8-10). The Cavs won the regular-season meeting, 18-0, on May 2, and will host the Jaguars at 4 p.m. in Hollis.

The winner will get either No. 8 Souhegan (11-5) or No. 9 Goffstown (11-6) in the quarterfinals. The Sabers beat the Grizzlies 8-1 on May 23, and will host Wednesday's game at 4 p.m. in Amherst.

Bedford (10-6) finished as the 12th seed and will travel to face No. 5 Coe-Brown (12-4) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams didn't meet during the regular season.

The winner will face either No. 4 Portsmouth (12-4) or No. 13 John Stark (9-7) in the quarterfinals. The Clippers and Generals play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 11 Milford (10-6) travels to face No. 6 Pembroke (11-5) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams didn't play during the regular season.

The winner of that game gets the winner of No. 3 Kennett (13-4) and No. 14 Bishop Brady (9-7), who will play Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Merrimack Valley (13-3) is the No. 2 seed and will host No. 15 Sanborn (8-8) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner will face either No. 7 Plymouth (11-5) or No. 10 Con-Val (10-6) in the quarterfinals. Plymouth and Con-Val will also play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

All quarterfinal games are scheduled for 4 p.m. on June 2 at the home of the higher seed. The semifinals are set for June 6, starting at 5 p.m., at SNHU, with the final to be played at 4:30 p.m. on June 9, also at SNHU.

### Division III

The Division III tournament got underway on Sunday with its play-in games. Fall Mountain, Berlin, Newport and Belmont all won games to get into the preliminary round.

No. 16 Belmont (7-10) earned the right to face top-seeded Campbell (16-0), the defending champion, at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in Litchfield. The teams didn't play during the regular season.

The winner will face either No. 9 Winnisquam (10-7) or No. 8 Bow (10-6), which also play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, in the quarterfinals.

No. 4 White Mountains (14-2) will host No. 13 Fall Mountain (8-9) in the preliminary round at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner of the game will face the winner of No. 5 Monadnock (14-2) and No. 12 Somersworth (8-8), who will also play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Gilford (16-0) hosts No. 18 Newport (7-11) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The winner will get the winner of No. 7 Conant (10-6) and No. 10 Farmington (9-7), who play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, in the quarterfinals.

No. 3 Stevens (16-1) will host No. 14 Berlin (7-10) at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the preliminary round. The winner of that game will face either No. 6 Franklin (12-5) or No.11 Hopkinton (8-8), who also play Wednesday at 4 p.m., in the quarterfinals.

All quarterfinal games are scheduled for 4 p.m. on June 2 at the home of the higher seed. The semifinals are scheduled for June 5, starting at 5 p.m., at Plymouth State University, while the final will be at 5 p.m. on June 9, also at PSU.

### Division IV

Wilton-Lynderborough (16-0) is once against the top seed in the tournament, and the Warriors will host No. 16 Epping (2-14) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. WLC defeated Epping twice during the regular season, 13-2 on May 15 and 15-3 on May 16.

The winner of that game will face either No. 9 Newmarket (9-7) or No. 8 Groveton (9-7) in the quarterfinals. Newmarket and Groveton will play Wednesday at 4 p.m.

No. 4 Portsmouth Christian (9-5) take on No. 13 Lin-Wood (7-9) in the preliminary round at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Dover. The winner moves on to face either No. 5 Woodsville (10-6) or No. 12 Pittsfield, who also play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Colebrook (14-2) hosts No. 15 Lisbon (4-12) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner gets to play the winner of No. 7 Sunapee (9-7) or No. 10 Littleton (8-8), who will play Wednesday at 4 p.m.

No. 3 Profile (13-3) is the defending champion and will host No. 14 Nute (6-10) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The winner will take on either No. 6 Moultonborough (9-7) or No. 11 Hinsdale (7-9), who also play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

All quarterfinals games will be played at 4 p.m. on June 2 at the higher seed. The semifinals are scheduled for June 5, starting at 5 p.m., at PSU, while the final will be played at 3 p.m. on June 9, also at PSU.
