The Bishop Guertin High School field hockey team has picked up two wins in its first two games of the season, scoring a dozen goals in the process.

But perhaps more impressive than the total output for the Cardinals has been the fact that those goals have come from seven different players.

"It’s great having that ability from anyone," Bishop Guertin coach Steve Duprat said. "It could have been anyone, but that’s the way we play. It’s just whoever happens to be hot. We make it so everyone has an opportunity to perform."

Brooke Yabroudy leads the Cardinals with five goals so far this season, including three in Friday's 5-0 win over Manchester Central, while Rylee Bouvier has two. Given how aggressive Bishop Guertin has been in the circle, especially in the second half against the Little Green, and it's passing ability, Duprat believes it could be anyone who ends up leading the team in scoring on a given day.

"It could have been three for Brooke, three for Rylee, three for Steph (Coulombe), three for Lindsay (Hult) and Sarah (Coyle)," he said. "They were great providing effort."

That depth in scoring is exiting for the players.

"It’s awesome," Yabroudy said. "Our starting lineup, everyone has so much potential to score so many goals. Midfielders, even our defense is doing great getting the ball up to them. Everyone is just pushing so hard. It will start coming and everyone will get them."

After having more than a week off, the schedule gets tough for the Cardinals, starting with a 10 a.m. game Saturday against Windham at Stellos Stadium. That's followed by games against Pinkerton, Bedford, Londonderry and Winnacunnet.

"Twelve goals is great and we’re starting to put it together now at the end of this (Central) game," Duprat said. "We put our passing together and that bodes well for us going into next week."

### Tough start

There aren't usually must-win games in the first week of the regular season, but Goffstown's 3-1 win over Sanborn on Thursday was a big one for the Grizzlies.

With an early-season schedule that includes road trips to Kennett and Plymouth, not to mention a matchup with defending-champion Derryfield, getting the first one of the way was huge.

"It’s constant," Goffstown coach Jess Brown said of the start. "It’s hard because it sometimes feels you never can relax and figure it out, and there’s an urgency to figuring it out."

The Grizzlies opened the season with that trip to Kennett, which also happened to fall on the first day of school at Goffstown, and the Eagles picked up a 2-0 win. Goffstown hosts Derryfield on Wednesday and travels to Plymouth on Friday.

"I think there were a lot of good things that happened against Kennett, we just didn’t sustain those final 15 minutes," Brown said. "It’s learning how to adjust our game. If we’re learning how to adjust faster against Derryfield and Plymouth next week, that’s going to mean better things for us as we go into the next 10 games and hopefully the postseason."

### Up to the challenge

Souhegan opened its season with back-to-back shutouts at home, beating Merrimack Valley 4-0 in the opener and then slipping past Portsmouth 1-0.

In the preseason, the Sabers prepared by stepping up their game and taking on some more challenging scrimmages to prepare for its Division II schedule.

"We had three preseason scrimmages with some D1 teams and an out-of-state team because the team is largely returners," Souhegan coach Kelli Braley said. "I didn’t want them to fell complacent, so pushing them early was something I wanted to do and I think it paid off here. It always good to understand what the pace of play is going to look like in your division."

Souhegan goes on the road for the first time this season on Tuesday, but doesn't go far, as the Sabers travel to Hollis Brookline.

### Playoff rematch

Londonderry and Merrimack will meet for the first time since last season's D1 quarterfinal, won by the Tomahawks, on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Merrimack. The Lancers are off to a 2-0 start after a 3-2 overtime win against Salem and a 4-2 victory over Exeter, while Merrimack is 0-1 after dropping its opener to Pinkerton 3-2.
