MANCHESTER - The Trinity High School football team was dominant in its Division III semifinal game against visiting Stevens on Saturday.

Using a powerful running game, and suffocating defensive game plan, the No. 2 Pioneers were simply too much for the sixth-seeded Cardinals, winning 48-15\. With arguably their biggest victory of the season, the Pioneers will be traveling to the University of New Hampshire for the D3 championship on Nov. 24, as they are slated to take on top-seed Lebanon at 11 a.m.

The first half was dominated by the Pioneers' running attack, with senior running back John Thibault leading the way. Thibault had a strong first half as he was able to score twice on the ground, which gave the Pioneers (10-1) the quick 14-0 lead.

Later in the first half, James Thibault was able to pound in for another score to bump the lead to 21-0\. On each offensive drive, it seemed as though the Pioneers had the key to the Cardinals' playbook. The Pioneers moved the ball with ease, sometimes starting deep in their own territory and driving the length of the field to score.

The Cardinals (6-5) had difficulties on both sides of the ball. Stevens seemed to be slow getting off the ball and ultimately was overmatched in the contest. Although the game was fairly lop-sided, the game wasn’t all bad for the Cardinals.

Senior running back Kevin McAllister was a bright spot for the Stevens offense. In the last game of his Cardinals career, McAllister was able to score the only touchdowns for his squad. McAllister rushed for one touchdown before the end of the first half, and another in the final moments of the game.

Trinity kicker Liam McCoy had an outstanding game kicking the ball for the Pioneers. McCoy was a perfect 6 for 6 on PATs and made a 25-yard field goal just before the end of the first half. By this point, the Pioneers were cruising to a 24-7 halftime lead. McCoy would also hit another field goal late in the fourth quarter.

The second half was more of the same for the Pioneers. Trinity’s John Thibault scored on a tough 55-yard touchdown run and had another impressive 40-yard carry later in the half to set up another Pioneer score.

Junior quarterback Peter Alisandro had a few great plays in the second half as well. Alisandro completed a deep pass to his wide-open receiver Dantre Taylor. who was able to score from 50 yards out. Alisandro would also call his own name on a 1-yard keeper for another Pioneer touchdown. Alisandro’s score would put the game too far out of reach for the Cardinals and secured their spot in the final next weekend.
