# Dugdale stifles Milford's bats in Souhegan win

MILFORD - Terry Dugdale came within two outs of a no-hitter and the Souhegan High School baseball team scratched out enough offense to beat Milford 3-0 Monday at Keyes Field.

Dugdale struck out 15 while allowing one hit and three walks in the complete-game victory and Kyle Beaulieu had two hits and a first-inning RBI that proved to be the only run the Sabers (1-1 in Division II) would need.

The Spartans (0-2) managed to get five runners on over seven innings. Logan Danforth had the lone hit, a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh, and also walked once. Alex Simo drew two walks, but was stranded at third in the fourth inning and picked off second to end the sixth. Ryan Britton also reach on a third strike that got away from Beaulieu behind the plate.

"It proves why he’s the No. 1 pitcher on our team," Beaulieu said. "He threw strikes, he threw a great game. All of his pitches were working, so it made it a lot harder for batters to have a good at bat. He got them off-balance with good offspeed. It was a great job."

While Milford was going hitless, the Spartans' pitchers did their best to keep it a game.

Brett Stagnone went four innings for Milford, allowing three runs - two earned - on three hits and four walks, while Nick Webster pitched three scoreless innings in relief, giving up one hit and striking out five.

"We’re doing it on the mound, we’re just not doing it with the bats," Milford coach Brett Jepson said. "They’re sophomores out here trying to hit against a kid like that, it’s going to take some time."

Souhegan got its first run in the first inning after Chris Almeida was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Beaulieu's two-out single. Nick Hession reached on an error to put runners on second and first, but Milford second baseman Kevin Poulter snagged a linedrive by Tyler Manoogian to end the inning.

The Sabers put another tally on the board in the third. Chris Chininis led off with a walk, stole second, went to third on an error and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0\. Souhegan had a chance for more, loading the bases after Stagnone walked Manoogian with two outs, but Bobby Graham hit into a fielder's choice to end the threat.

Chininis and Almeida made it 3-0 in the fourth, when Chininis walked with two outs, stole second and scored when Almeida singled to right.

That inning would be the last for Stangone, and the Sabers managed to get just one base runner - Zack Polio's two-out single in the seventh - the rest of the way against Webster.

Milford threatened to get on the board in the fourth without a hit. Simo led off with a walk, made it to second on a wild pitch and stole third. Cam Douglas drew a one-out walk and took second without a throw to put two runners in scoring position.

But Dugdale battled back to strikeout Danforth and got John Forte to ground out to end the inning. Dugdale then recorded eight of the final nine outs by strikeout.
