GOFFSTOWN - After a second quarter Friday that saw the Dover High School boys lacrosse team control possession and take its first lead of the day against Goffstown, coach John Silverio thought momentum might be swinging his team's way.

During halftime, the Green Wave coach told his team that the Grizzlies' defense might start to wear down, especially if Dover could keep winning faceoffs.

Dover did just that, keeping possession after faceoff wins - and forcing turnovers when it didn't - as the Green Wave turned a close game into a comfortable 12-3 win over Goffstown in a Division II game.

Down 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, Dover (4-0) outscored Goffstown 11-1 the rest of the way, including 7-0 in the second half. Cam Lent led the way for the Green Wave, scoring four goals and picking up an assist while Justin Colizzi had three goals and an assist and Kyle Ferriero had two goals and an assist.

"We got off to a slow start, and that Goffstown team, that’s, I think, a very good opponent," Silverio said. "I was impressed with the way they got up and down the field. What we did is we won more battles in between the restraining lines and were creating great opportunities.

We’re getting contributions from different kids, which is nice. We’re swarming to the ball and we’re having good scoring opportunities, they’re putting good shots on cage. I’m proud of these guys."

Dover also got four assists from Andrew Housley while Dominic Silverio had a goal and two assists and Ryan Long and Jace Woodman also had a goal each. Noah Schwartz made six saves, five of them in the second half on some quality chances for Goffstown (2-1).

"We were motivated, driven, we played our best game," Goffstown coach Josh Lewis said. "The problem was, the third quarter, we couldn’t get off of defense. Our guys were getting tired and by the time we got in the offensive end, we got a little shaky and tried to push to the cage a little too quick. We didn’t give our defense a chance to get their breath. That cost us big time."

The Grizzlies took the lead 1:45 into the game on a goal by Griffin Cook, and after Dover tied it, Devin Young scored with 1:59 left in the first quarter to give Goffstown a 2-1 lead going into the second.

Dover tied the game again on Colizzi's second goal of the game just 1:41 into the second and Ferriero gave the Green Wave their first lead of the day with 7:52 to go until halftime.

But Goffstown came back, getting a goal from Nick Mason 1:29 later to tie the game at 3\. But the Green Wave would win the faceoff and control possession for three straight minutes, getting off eight shots until Lent scored with 3:06 left in the half to put Dover ahead for good.

Lent added another goal with 1:06 left in the half to make it 5-3.

"I think we’re starting to wear this defense down a little bit," John Silverio said to his team at halftime. "The looks are starting to open up a little more. That’s a good defensive team. They contested everything, their defensive unit is very strong.

"What I like about what our guys are doing right now is we’re taking it to teams. I love the way we're playing."
