# Division II boys lacrosse preview

With Bedford gone, Goffstown hopes to be the one holding the Division II championship plaque at the end of the season.

Here’s a look at how the Division II boys lacrosse season might play out in 2015.

### Favorites

- **Goffstown (last year: 13-4):** After finishing second to Bedford two years in a row, the Grizzlies seemed to poised to make the next step. It helps that Goffstown has a solid core back, led by seniors Christian Marquis and Sam Shearin and juniors Steve Dubois and Colin Holt.
- **Derryfield (last year: 19-1):** The Cougars dominated Division III last season before falling to Hollis Brookline in the final. Things might be tougher for Derryfield in D-II, but the Cougars should be there at the end thanks to the return of players like Jimmy O'Brien, Joe Costa, Mike Chiasson, Drew Johnson, George Nicolopoulos and Allen Mello.
- **St. Thomas (last year: 13-3):** For two straight years, the Saints have had their season ended by Goffstown in the semifinals. St. Thomas did lose a lot from a year ago, but returns all-state performers Charlie Pollock and Xavier Quinn.

### Contenders

- **Windham (last year: 5-12):** Another team making the jump to D-II, the Jaguars were a young squad that played a tough schedule a year ago. Returning for Windham are junior Matt Shea and senior Anthony Gallo, both of whom received all-state honors last year.
- **Hollis Brookline (last year: 16-2):** The Cavaliers were hit hard by graduation, losing a lot on offense, including co-Offensive Player of the Year Ryan Papineau. HB will rely on its defense, led by senior Joe Brooks and junior Ben Lombardi, while junior Trevor Cooke steps in at goal.
- **Portsmouth (last year: 11-4):** The Clippers lost a lot of players to graduation, but should have a nice mix of older and younger players this season. Seniors Reed Williamson and Jamie Meade will try to blend Portsmouth with freshmen Jack Stevens, Jacob Morin, Zadoc White and Oliver Allen.

### Sleeper

- **John Stark (last year: 12-4):** The Generals continued to grow in Division III, and that should continue now that they've moved up. Leading the way for John Stark will be seniors Brody Fredericks, Terry Zervous and goalie Austin Colburn.

**The rest:** Bow, Keene, Kennett, Kingswood, Merrimack Valley, Milford, Oyster River, Pembroke, Spaulding, Timberlane, Winnacunnet.

### Projected Final Four

1. Goffstown
2. Derryfield
3. Windham
4. St. Thomas

**Championship:** Goffstown over Derryfield.

### Tournament Dates

- Preliminary round: June 3, at higher seed, 5 p.m.
- Quarterfinals: June 6, at higher seed, 5 p.m.
- Semifinals: June 10, at Bill Ball Stadium, 5 and 7 p.m.
- Final: June 13, at Bill Ball Stadium, 2:30 p.m.
