It would be easy for the Concord High School boys hockey team to get too excited.

Coming off a trip to the Division I championship game - the program's first since 2010 - and with a good chunk of players returning, the Crimson Tide (8-0) are the only undefeated boys team left in the state.

And while there have been close games this season, not many teams can matchup with Concord's size, speed and goaltending.

But some of the toughest games of the season are still ahead for the Tide, including Saturday's game against Bedford (9-1), who Concord defeated in the championship game of the Bauer Christmas Hockey Classic in December.

"Our record makes me a little nervous, that we'll have too much confidence," Concord senior Bradley Murphy said. "We've got high expectations. We make sure we come out every day and practice hard, and just try win every game we can."

So far, Concord has, and it's continued to improve since being a finalist a year ago. Tide coach Dunc Walsh has seen it even in his top line, which consists of Murphy, senior Matt Norris and Alex Marceau.

"Their size makes a big difference," Walsh said. "They all can shoot the puck and they're strong. Two are seniors. They started really strong and then had a little lull, but they seem to be picking it up again."

For goalie Ben Nelson, the improvements over a year ago can be seen a lot on the defensive end.

"Our defense is playing smart and the odd-man rushes are a lot less," he said. "This year, we dominate. The puck is in their end a lot more than it is ours, and that helps a lot."

Looking too far ahead can be dangerous, but Nelson admits that at times what happened a year can be used as inspiration for the here and now.

"You've got to push it behind and use it as fuel, knowing that you were there and you were that close," he said. "It's just kind of motivates us all to get out there and play even harder."

Concord takes on Londonderry at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Salem Ice Center.

### Taking a turn

Just a week ago, the teams in Division II were looking up the standings at Dover, but two straight 3-2 losses, one to Spaulding and one to Merrimack, have dropped the Green Wave to third.

That sets up a showdown for first place in the division on Saturday, as Bow (10-1-1) travels to Keene (10-1) for a 2:30 p.m. start

Bow has been led by Doug Champagne, who has scored 13 goals during the team's current five-game win streak and leads D2 with 36 points. The Falcons lone loss of the season came back on Jan. 2 in a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Dover, and Bow has gone 9-0-1 since.

Keene has put together a good run of its own, having won 10 in a row since an opening-night loss to Spaulding. It's the start of a tough three-game stretch for the Blackbirds, as they'll host Windham on Feb. 10 and go to Dover on Feb. 13.

The game should feature some offense, as eight of the division's top nine scorers will be on the ice, four to a side.
