BOW - When things are going right for the Coe-Brown Northwood Academy boys lacrosse team, anyone on offense can be a threat to score.

Things were going pretty well for the Bears against Bow on Tuesday.

Seven players had at least a goal for Coe-Brown, as the Bears jumped out to an early lead and continued to roll through the regular season, getting a 13-3 win over the Falcons in a matchup of the two teams at the top of the Division III standings.

Joseph Fenton had four goals while Sam Frye had two goals and an assist and Glenn Papineau had a goal and two assists for Coe-Brown (14-0). Liam White and Garrett Ward each scored twice and Gil Bean and Colby Strum had a goal and an assist apiece.

"We’re really fortunate that we have a bunch of guys who have noses for the goal," Coe-Brown coach Tony DePalma said. "Gil Bean was our third player to go over a hundred points this season. We’ve got a lot of guys who can step up and they have been stepping up.

"When you have a balanced attack like that, it’s hard to stop. That’s always been the goal, that everybody out there can be a threat if the opportunity is there for them to be a threat."

Aiden McGuigan was 12 of 18 on faceoffs and goalie Jack Matson came up with 10 saves as the Bears not only held a team under five goals for the 12th time this year, but they also held the Falcons below their season average of 10.4 goals per game.

Coe-Brown was also the first team this season to score more than six goals against Bow (11-2), which was allowing just 2.8 per game coming into the contest.

"They’ve got really good players at every position across the field," Bow coach Devin Calkins said. "There is no bad player for them. We knew it was going to be a game against probably the most talented team we’re going to see this year. We need to do everything better."

The Falcons got two goals from Niko Mallios and another from Rowan Schlosser while Brad Ekstrom finished with 14 saves.

But despite Ekstrom's best efforts early on, Coe-Brown jumped on Bow early, taking a 4-0 in the first quarter and going up 7-0 before Mallios got the Falcons on the board with 1:29 left in the first half.

Fenton made it 8-1 with a goal in the final seconds of the half, but Mallios scored again midway through the third to make it 8-2\. But any momentum the Falcons had went away when White scored just 39 seconds later.

"Our interior defense could have been better (Tuesday)," Calkins said. "Their offense is very focused on picking inside and freeing up shooters. We’re pretty good about switching in most matchups, but it think we got a little conscious about keeping matchups.

"We started to do that more toward the end and it made a little big of a difference. We did put a zone on them, but it was probably a little too late. We were just trying to slow them down."

The Falcons did that, but couldn't get any closer, as the Bears led 11-2 at the end of the third quarter and went up by 11 in the fourth.

"I know that if we are popping, if we are executing the game plan, passing and catching, sticking to the fundamentals, we’re going to get opportunities to score," DePalma said. "These guys have worked really hard to fine-tune the offense. It’s designed to give them opportunities. I just feel lucky to be working with these kids. We’ve been moving in the right direction."
