A total of seven champions were crowned in boys and girls basketball and boys and girls hockey on Saturday, including the Bishop Guertin High School girls basketball team, which won its first title with a win over Londonderry.

The No. 1 Cardinals held on late, [thanks to two free throws](http://www.unionleader.com/article/20120310/SPORTS/120319984/1003/sports?ref=nh-highschoolsports.com) from Jamie Sherburne in the [final three seconds](http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/sportshighschoolsports/953183-221/bg-holds-off-londonderry-to-win-di.html?ref=nh-highschoolsports.com), despite losing a 10-point lead and defeated the No. 3 Lancers 46-43 at Southern New Hampshire University. Meghan Green had 17 points and 17 rebounds for BG (21-1), which shot just 13 for 30 from the free throw line, and Sherburne added 16 points. Aliza Simpson led Londonderry (19-3) with 10 points.

That wasn't the only history made on Saturday. In Division III, No. 1 Berlin (21-1) [won its first boys basketball title](http://www.unionleader.com/article/20120310/SPORTS/703119983/1003/sports?ref=nh-highschoolsports.com) since 1940 by beating No. 6 Prospect Mountain 53-51 at SNHU. The Mountaineers trailed by 12 points in the third quarter, but Curtis Arsenault hit a halfcourt 3 to end the quarter to spark Berlin and made two free throws with 10.4 seconds left to put his team up for good. Sam Aldrich had 18 points for Berlin while Patrick Cassidy led Prospect Mountain with 15 points.

No. 1 Moultonborough (22-0) finished off an [undefeated](http://www.unionleader.com/article/20120310/SPORTS/703119981/1003/sports?ref=nh-highschoolsports.com) [season](http://www.citizen.com/news/2012-03-10/Sports/Moultonborough%5Fboys%5Fbasketball%5Fcaptures%5FDIV%5Fstate%5F.html?ref=nh-highschoolsports.com) in Division IV with a 54-50 win over No. 2 Littleton. With the Panthers trailing and Marcus Swedberg on the bench with four fouls early in the second half, younger brother Drew Swedberg took over, helping his team to a 12-3 run. Sam Brammer led Littleton with 22 points.

No. 1 Pinkerton [took home](http://www.unionleader.com/article/20120310/SPORTS/703119985/1003/sports?ref=nh-highschoolsports.com) the Division I boys hockey title by [holding off](http://nhgameday.blogspot.com/2012/03/div-i-championship-video-pinkerton-3.html?ref=nh-highschoolsports.com) No. 2 Manchester Memorial 3-2\. J.D. Dudek and Zach Sanford scored early for the Astros, and Dominic Corsetto scored in the third to put Pinkerton up 3-0\. But the Crusaders came back with goals by Colin Williamson and Jacob Boylan, but that was all Memorial could get.

In Division II, No. 1 Bedford scored two goals in the second period and held off No. 3 Dover to win its first title. In Division III, No. 1 Kennett needed almost all of overtime to defeat No. 2 Alvirne 4-3.

No. 2 Hanover won its [third-straight girls hockey title](http://www.unionleader.com/article/20120310/SPORTS/703119999?ref=nh-highschoolsports.com) by defeating No. 1 Lebanon 5-1\. Madison Hill had three goals and twin sister Tessa Hill added five assists and Maddie Dewhirst had two goals and two assists for the Marauders.

The Division I and II boys basketball quarterfinals finally finished up Sunday. The Division I semifinals were pushed back to Tuesday, when No. 7 Merrimack will face No. 6 Spaulding at 6 p.m. at the University of New Hampshire, followed by No. 1 Trinity and No. 4 Manchester Central.

The Division II semifinals will take place on Wednesday. No. 11 Coe-Brown will face No. 2 Portsmouth at 6 p.m. at UNH, and No. 5 Bedford and No. 1 Hanover will play after that.
