Not when he was looking across the field at Mike Beliveau on the Souhegan sideline. “To be honest, up 14, up 21, I’m looking across the field and I know I’ve got a great coach over there I’m going up against,” Robinson said. “I’m still nervous. Until we put that 35th point on the board, I was not comfortable. I kept looking up and saying ‘why is the time going so darn slow?’ ” Time eventually ran out and the Cavaliers got their first ever win over the Sabers, beating Souhegan 35-0 Saturday. The win kept H/B (2-0 in Division III, 3-0 overall) undefeated, while the Sabers (0-3, 1-3) were shut out for the first time since the 2007 division championship game. Colin Pellerin and Nate Ferenczhalmy had two touchdowns each to help the Cavs rush for 220 yards. Kyle Gervais added 146 yards through the air, including a 31-yard touchdown pass to David Caponigro in the third quarter that made it 28-0. We put a game plan out there and they executed it to perfection. They did everything we asked them to do and that’s why we won the game.” Pellerin finished with 130 yards on the ground while Ferenczhalmy added another 81 rushing yards, but it was two Souhegan turnovers in the third quarter that allowed H/B to take complete control. The Cavs led 14-0 at halftime and were forced to punt on the opening drive of the second half. But two plays later, Souhegan’s Denny Desserault fumbled and Pellerin recovered at the Sabers’ 41-yard line. Before H/B ran a play, the Sabers were flagged for an unsportsmanlike penalty, moving the ball to the 26, and after a 3-yard run by Pellerin, Gervais connected with Sean Connors for a 21-yard gain to the 1\. Pellerin scored on the next play to make it 21-0. On the second play of Souhegan’s next drive, Zadek Burstein, who was one of three players to see time at quarterback for the Sabers, was pressured by the Cavs and tossed up the ball as he went to the ground. Connors plucked it out of the air for an interception, setting the Cavs up at Souhegan’s 21. After a holding call pushed the Cavs back, Gervais hit Caponigro for a 31-yard catch-and-run touchdown. The extra point by Jeff Kulpa made it 28-0 with 7:27 to go in the quarter. “Turnovers continue to plague us, but at the same time, it was a lot more than turnovers,” Souhegan coach Mike Beliveau said. “It was big things from equipment issues to personnel problems where kids felt the heat and had dehydration issues. That falls on me. I am embarrassed by the performance of the team from the head coach down. “Take nothing away from Hollis/Brookline. After Souhegan’s Robby McCormick was intercepted in the end zone by Nick Noval, the Cavs marched 80 yards in 15 plays that took 9:12 off the clock. Ferenczhlamy ended the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. “We knew we needed to get a couple turnovers from them in order to win the football game,” Robinson said. “Our kids stepped up. They were in the right position and they made the play. In past years, we’ve been in position, we just haven’t made the play. These guys wanted it so badly.”
