Division III will certainly be on its way, with three games pitting the top six teams against each other. On Friday night, Goffstown (4-0 in division) heads to Portsmouth (4-0), while on Saturday, Milford (2-2) will host Souhegan (1-3) in a game that was postponed from Friday. Also on Saturday, Hollis/Brookline (4-0) will go on the road to face Bedford (4-1) at 2 p.m. The Cavaliers and Bulldogs enter the game ranked one and two in the division in both offensive and defensive scoring. H/B is first in the league in points-per-game, averaging 44.3, while Bedford is second at 42.2\. The Cavs are also tops in defense, giving up 8.3 points; the Bulldogs are second, allowing 10 per game. So will Saturday’s game feature a lot of points, or none at all? Neither coach knows, but both H/B’s Milt Robinson and Bedford’s Kurt Hines expect it to come down to the wire. “I think it’s going to come down to the final few minutes of the game,” Hines said. “It’s what football is all about. You want to have these (kind of games).” “There’s nothing like having a competitive game,” Robinson said. “I look at Kurt’s (team) and I don’t see any weaknesses, to be honest. I look at all his players, and they’re all very talented.” Neither team has had many close games this season. Of the 11 combined games the teams have played, only one has been decided by less than 10 points, and that was Bedford’s 17-15 loss to Goffstown. For Hines, that’s been a bit of a concern. While he likes the point totals and big plays his team is getting, he’s weary that his offense hasn’t really had many opportunities to go on long drives. “You do want to see those long, sustained drives,” he said. “One of our goals is to run up the middle enough to get the defense to load up and get them on their heels, and then to attack the outside. “Because of some of the big plays, and I won’t complain about them, we haven’t had sustained drives. Hopefully we condition the guys well enough and we’ll have enough gas in our tanks to succeed on those long drives.” While Bedford is hoping to see more of its offense, Robinson is hoping his Cavs can match the Bulldogs intensity. “They’re going to be fired up and we’re going to have to match that intensity,” Robinson said. “That comes from Kurt. He is a very intense guy and a very intense coach. You can tell it rubs off on them. “We’re going to ratchet it up a notch because the competition is ratcheting up a notch.” Bedford could be without one of its key contributors on offense, as running back Jordan Garron reinjured his ankle during last week’s win over Milford. Hines estimated that Garron was at 70 percent going into Friday’s practice. With or without Garron, Robinson knows what H/B is up against. “There’s no one person you can stop on that team and expect to be successful,” he said. “You can’t play like you played last week, where maybe there were a couple of athletes you needed to stop. You need to stop everybody. Every one of our kids has got to play his best game.”
