Cardinals going for ninth straight girls track title

This may be the first season the NHIAA will crown a Division I girls track champion, but the top two contenders are the same as the last few years.

The Bishop Guertin High School girls team will be going for its ninth-straight indoor title, having won the last eight Class L crowns. A win would extend the Cardinals' state record for most consecutive indoor girls titles, and move them past the Londonderry boys (from 1995-2002) for the second longest streak overall; the Nashua boys won 13 straight titles from 1959-1971.

Once again, its top competition figures to come from Manchester Central, which has been the runner-up to Bishop Guertin the last two indoor seasons. Both teams have numerous competitors seeded in the top six of every event.

The championship meet is scheduled for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Dartmouth College. Following is a complete list of local qualifiers for Sunday’s Division I girls meet:

Alvirne

Lydia Lyman, fresh. - seeded fifth in the 1,500.
Erica Notini, soph. - seeded 10th in the 1,500 and eighth in the 3,000.
Amanda Roberts, sr. - seeded fourth in the long jump.
4x160 relay - seeded fifth.
4x400 relay - seeded 13th.
4x800 relay - seeded 10th.

Bishop Guertin

Cecilia Barowski, sr. - tied for top seed in the 55, seeded second in the 300, fifth in the 600 and fifth in the 1,000.
Betsy Garnick, soph. - tied for second seed in the 55, second in the 55 hurdles and second in the long jump.
Leslie Mei, sr. - seeded 12th in the 300
Sarah Burke, soph. - seeded third in the 600, second in the 1,000 and second in the 1,500.
Molly McCabe, fresh. - seeded seventh in the 600, first in the 1,000 and first in the 1,500.
Shauna Salem, fresh. - seeded ninth in the 1,500 and fourth in the 3,000.
Hannah Moriarty, sr. - seeded seventh in the 3,000.
Melissa LaCoste, jr. - seeded first in the high jump
Emma Annand, soph. - seeded seventh in the high jump.
Jacklyn Dubois, jr. - seeded firth in the shot put.

Merrimack

Emily Pollard, jr. - tied for second seed in the 55, seeded seventh in the 300, fourth in the 600 and sixth in the 1,000.

Lauren Calvino, sr. - seeded 12th in the 1,000, fourth in the 1,500 and first in the 3,000.
