All this week, we’ll be taking a look at the schedule in each division, breaking it down week by week to highlight what should be the biggest matchups of the season. In Division II, each team plays nine games this year, thanks to the addition of another varsity program (Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton) to bring the division back to an even number. No teams will have a bye week this year. The division has changed from a four-conference format to two conferences - North (Bow, Gilford-Belmont, Hanover, John Stark, Kennett, Kingswood, Laconia, Lebanon, Merrimack Valley, Pembroke, Plymouth) and South (ConVal, H-D/Hopkinton, Hollis Brookline, Manchester West, Milford, Pelham, Sanborn, Souhegan, St. Thomas, Trinity, Windham). Each team will play one crossover game against a team from the other conference, and plays eight of the nine other teams in it's conference. The two teams that finish first in each conference are the No. 1 and 2 seeds in the tournament, with the next six best teams, regardless of conference, making the playoffs. Here's a look at the Division II regular-season schedule. ## Week 1 ### Friday, Sept. 2 - Lebanon at Merrimack Valley, 6 p.m. - **ConVal at Milford, 7 p.m.:** The first game of the season will start the march toward a hundred career receptions for ConVal's Liam Baldwin, which would likely be a state record. - Hanover at Laconia, 7 p.m. - Plymouth at Kingswood, 7 p.m. - **Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton at Manchester West, 7 p.m.:** The Redhawks get their first varsity game under the bright lights in the big city. West has won just one game since 2012. - **Gilford-Belmont at Kennett, 7 p.m.:** Gilford-Belmont also makes its D2 debut on the first Friday of the season, which will also be its first game as a co-op team under first-year had coach Josh Marzahl. ### Saturday, Sept. 3 - **Souhegan at John Stark, 1:30 p.m.:** The Sabers are coming off their first postseason appearance since 2012, while the Generals will try to get there for the first time behind quarterback Drew McQuarrie. - Windham at Hollis Brookline, 1:30 p.m. - **Bow at Pembroke, 1:30 p.m.:** Lots of new faces here, as Bow plays its first game in D2, while the Spartans are on their third head coach in as many years, as Larry McElreavy takes over after leading Newport to the D3 title last year. - Sanborn at St. Thomas, 1:30 p.m. - **Pelham at Trinity, 7 p.m.:** Another stop on the coaching carousel is in Manchester, where Rob Cathcart, who was at Pembroke last year, will be coaching his first game for Trinity. ## Week 2 ### Friday, Sept. 9 - Manchester West at ConVal, 7 p.m. - Merrimack Valley at Hanover, 7 p.m. - Laconia at Kingswood, 7 p.m. - **St. Thomas at Pelham, 7 p.m.:** The defending champs take on a Pelham team that enters the year having lost 12 in a row, and 14 of 16 since moving up to D2. - Pembroke at Lebanon, 7 p.m. - **Trinity at Souhegan, 7:30 p.m.:** These two teams have been in the mix for a playoff spot each of the last two seasons, and could do so again this year. ### Saturday, Sept. 10 - Bow at Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton, 1 p.m. - **Milford at Windham, 1:30 p.m.:** Milford was the only team to beat Windham during the regular season last year, and teams have typically played competitive games the last three years. - John Stark at Gilford-Belmont, 1:30 p.m. - **Hollis Brookline at Sanborn, 1:30 p.m.:** These teams have formed a bit of a rivalry over the last few years, playing some close games, including a quarterfinal game in 2014. - **Kennett at Plymouth, 1:30 p.m.:** A rivalry that's been pretty one sided over the last few years, as Plymouth has won nine of 11 against Kennett, including handing the Eagles their only regular-season loss a year ago. ## Week 3 ### Friday, Sept. 16 - Kennett at Merrimack Valley, 6 p.m. - Pelham at Milford, 7 p.m. - **John Stark at Lebanon, 7 p.m.:** These teams finished with identical records last year, but the Raiders got the playoff spot thanks to a better football rating. - Kingswood at ConVal, 7 p.m. - Gilford-Belmont at Bow, 7 p.m. - Hanover at Pembroke, 7 p.m. - **Plymouth at Laconia, 7 p.m.:** Laconia has won the last two meetings between the teams by a combined two points. - Sanborn at Manchester West, 7 p.m. ### Saturday, Sept. 17 - **Souhegan at St. Thomas, 1:30 p.m.:** This is the start of a three-game stretch for Souhegan against teams that were in the playoffs a year ago. - Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton at Windham, 7 p.m. - **Hollis Brookline at Trinity, 7 p.m.:** This will be the first meeting between the two programs. ## Week 4 ### Friday, Sept. 23 - **Windham at Souhegan, 7 p.m.:** The Jaguars were the only team to hold the Sabers under double digits in the regular season last year and are 3-0 all time against Souhegan. - Merrimack Valley at Hollis Brookline, 7 p.m. - **Lebanon at Hanover, 7 p.m.:** One of the bigger rivalries in the state has been owned by Lebanon in recent years, as the Raiders have won three in a row and four of the last six. - **St. Thomas at Kennett, 7 p.m.:** A rematch of the 2014 semifinals - won by St. Thomas - these two teams have been a combined 37-5 in the last two seasons. - Pembroke at Laconia, 7 p.m. ### Saturday, Sept. 24 - Milford at Manchester West, 1 p.m. - ConVal at Sanborn, 1 p.m. - **Plymouth at Bow, 1:30 p.m.:** After opening the season with Pembroke, H-D/Hopkinton and Gilford-Belmont, Bow gets its toughest test to date as a member of D2. - Pelham at Gilford-Belmont, 3 p.m. - Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton at Trinity, 7 p.m. - **Kingswood at John Stark, 7 p.m.:** This is the first meeting between the teams since 2012, when both teams were in Division IV. ## Week 5 ### Friday, Sept. 30 - **Souhegan at Milford, 7 p.m.:** A lopsided rivalry for a long time, Milford has won three of the last four meetings, including a quarterfinal win last season. - **Trinity at ConVal, 7 p.m.:** This will be the first meeting between these two programs, in a game that could end up having playoff implications. - Bow at Kingswood, 7 p.m. - Hanover at Gilford-Belmont, 7 p.m. - **Kennett at Lebanon, 7 p.m.:** Kennett has won the last five meetings between these two, but last year, Lebanon held the Eagles to just 14 points. - Sanborn at Pelham, 7 p.m. - Manchester West at Pembroke, 7 p.m. ### Saturday, Oct. 1 - **St. Thomas at Windham, 1:30 p.m.:** A rematch of the last two D2 championship games, it's the first regular-season meeting between the two since both were in D4 in 2012. - Hollis Brookline at Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton, 2:30 p.m. - Merrimack Valley at Plymouth, 3 p.m. - **Laconia at John Stark, 3:30 p.m.:** John Stark hosts a Laconia team that had a hand in keeping the Generals out of the postseason a year ago. ## Week 6 ### Friday, Oct. 7 - Kingswood at Merrimack Valley, 6 p.m. - Manchester West at Souhegan, 7 p.m. - Bow at Kennett, 7 p.m. - Sanborn at Hanover, 7 p.m. - **Lebanon at Laconia, 7 p.m.:** The Sachems have won nine of the last 12 meetings between the two teams, but the Raiders have won the last two. ### Saturday, Oct. 8 - Belmont-Gilford at Plymouth, 1:30 p.m. - John Stark at Pembroke, 1:30 p.m. - **ConVal at Hollis Brookline, 2 p.m.:** ConVal was won seven games in the last four years, and three of those wins have come against Hollis Brookline. - **Trinity at Windham, 2:30 p.m.:** These two teams have played six times (three wins each) in the last four years, including two playoff wins for Trinity. However, Windham has won the last two by an average of 25 points. - Pelham at Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton, 6 p.m. - **Milford at St. Thomas, 7 p.m.:** A rematch of last year's semifinal, won by the Saints. One of two Southern Conference games on the day that could be for playoff seeding. ## Week 7 ### Friday, Oct. 14 - **Milford at Trinity, 7 p.m.:** These teams have formed a bit of rivalry over the last three years, thanks to both being in the hunt for a playoff spot. Trinity had won the first two meetings before Milford's 46-12 win a year ago. - **Pelham at ConVal, 7 p.m.:** This game ends a six-game stretch for ConVal against teams that were 12-36 a year ago. With a lot of returning players this year, the Cougars could be in position for a playoff spot here. - Hollis Brookline at Manchester West, 7 p.m. - Hanover at Kingswood, 7 p.m. - **Laconia at Kennett, 7 p.m.:** The Eagles have won the last three meetings, but the Sachems had won five in a row against Kennett before that. ### Saturday, Oct. 15 - St. Thomas at Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton, 1 p.m. - Souhegan at Sanborn, 1:30 p.m. - **Plymouth at John Stark, 1:30 p.m.:** The first meeting between these two teams since 2012, and it could potentially be for a playoff spot. - Merrimack Valley at Bow, 1:30 p.m. - Pembroke at Gilford-Belmont, 1:30 p.m. - Windham at Lebanon, 6 p.m. ## Week 8 ### Friday, Oct. 21 - Gilford-Belmont at Merrimack Valley, 6 p.m. - **Sanborn at Milford, 7 p.m.:** These teams have played just one time before, with Milford winning 48-23 back in 2013. - Kennett at Hanover, 7 p.m. - **Trinity at Laconia, 7 p.m.:** The Pioneers and Sachems played four times from 2010-12, with Trinity winning all four by an average of almost 18 points. ### Saturday, Oct. 22 - Souhegan at Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton, 1 p.m. - Manchester West at Windham, 1:30 p.m. - Bow at John Stark, 1:30 p.m. - ConVal at St. Thomas, 1:30 p.m. - **Pelham at Hollis Brookline, 1:30 p.m.:** This will be the third year in a row these two teams play, with Hollis Brookline winning the first two meetings. - **Kingswood at Pembroke, 1:30 p.m.:** These two have played seven times since 2004, with Kingswood holding a 4-3 advantage, including wins in each of the last two years. - Lebanon at Plymouth, 1:30 p.m. ## Week 9 ### Friday, Oct. 28 - Pembroke at Merrimack Valley, 6 p.m. - **Plymouth at Milford, 7 p.m.:** This will be the first meeting between these two teams since 2009, with the Bobcats winning all seven games from 2004-09, including the playoffs. - **Hollis Brookline at Souhegan, 7 p.m.:** Souhegan holds a 7-2 edge in the series, including wins by a combined 71-14 in the last two years. - Windham at ConVal, 7 p.m. - John Stark at Hanover, 7 p.m. - **Kennett at Kingswood, 7 p.m.:** Kennett has won nine games in a row against its Kingswood, including a 37-0 win last year. - **St. Thomas at Trinity, 7 p.m.:** A game that could have big playoff implications, Trinity and St. Thomas has split the last four meetings. - Manchester West at Pelham, 7 p.m. ### Saturday, Oct. 29 - Lebanon at Bow, 1:30 p.m. - Laconia at Gilford-Belmont, 1:30 p.m. - Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton at Sanborn, 1:30 p.m.
