# Bracketology: Division II girls basketball

Coe-Brown avoided its first loss last week with a second-half rally against Portsmouth.

The final week of the regular season is here for Division II girls basketball, and there's still quite a bit up for grabs as far as seeding is concerned.

Feb. 27 is as of now the last day of the regular season, while the preliminary round is scheduled to begin on March 4\. The top 16 teams in the division make the postseason, and here’s a look at where everyone stands right now.

### Top four seeds

- Coe-Brown (16-0)
- Bishop Brady (15-1)
- Milford (15-1)
- Oyster River (14-3)

Not much of a change here, other than Oyster River moving alone into fourth place. Coe-Brown appears to have the top seed locked up, as Bishop Brady and Milford close the season with tougher schedules. The Giants have Portsmouth and Goffstown to end the regular season, while the Spartans play Oyster River and Merrimack Valley. Oyster River could jump up with a win over Milford, but would need the Spartans or Giants to lose both of their remaining games.

### Next four

- Goffstown (13-4)
- Lebanon (12-4)
- Merrimack Valley (12-5)
- Pembroke (11-5)

Goffstown dropped into the No. 5 spot with a loss to Hanover last week, but its win over Lebanon gives the Grizzlies the head-to-head tiebreaker. Lebanon ends the regular season at Coe-Brown and at home to ConVal, and the Raiders would have to win both and hope Goffstown loses its last game to Bishop Brady to move up. Merrimack Valley moved up a spot with two wins last week, as did Pembroke, which could move up even further, if it wins its final games against Kennett and Timberlane, and gets some help.

### Teams no one wants in the first round

- Portsmouth (10-6)
- Hanover (8-8)
- Souhegan (7-9)
- St. Thomas (6-11)

Portsmouth was one half away from handing Coe-Brown its first loss last Wednesday, and then was outscored by 20 points in the second half. The Clippers were 7-1 when injuries derailed their season, but they'll still be a tough out in the tournament. Hanover went 2-1 last week, and was a couple of breaks away from beating Milford. The Marauders have the talent to make noise, its just a matter of overcoming mistakes. Souhegan is 3-7 in its last 10 games, but its tough to count it out, given the talent. The Sabers are likely a year away from being a serious contender. Like Hanover and Souhegan, St. Thomas is another team with talent that is better than its record shows.

### The rest of the field

- Manchester West (7-10)
- Windham (5-11)
- Hollis Brookline/Kennett/Timberlane (4-12)

The final three teams are tied for 15th, which means only two can get it.

- ConVal (3-13)
- John Stark (2-15)
- Kingswood (2-15)
- Plymouth (0-17)
