# Bracketology: Division I boys basketball

Bishop Guertin and Pembroke both has the capability of sending someone home early from the tourney.

Much like Division II, Division I boys basketball appears to have four teams that are a step above the rest. But with the regular season down to its final weeks, there's still plenty of time for other teams to step up.

The regular season is scheduled to end on March 6, with the first round of the tournament to begin on March 11\. The top 16 teams in the division make the postseason, and here’s a look at where everyone stands right now.

### Top four seeds

- Londonderry (11-0)
- Manchester Central (10-1)
- Spaulding (9-2)
- Pinkerton (10-3)

After ending Central's winning streak last Friday, Londonderry now faces the challenge of wearing the favorite hat for the foreseeable future. Since Jan. 23, Londonderry's opponents were 37-24, so the Lancers will have to make sure not to look past their next three opponents, who are a combined 10-27\. Central has a tough stretch coming up, but the Little Green have the talent to bounce back and stay among the top teams in the division. Spaulding has the good fortune of playing five of its last seven games at home, including the regular-season finale on March 6 against Londonderry. Pinkerton bounced back from a double overtime loss to Memorial with a narrow win at Bedford last Friday.

### Next four seeds

- Alvirne (9-3)
- Nashua South (8-5)
- Pembroke (7-5)
- Bedford/Bishop Guertin (7-6)

Alvirne is only a half-game behind the Astros, but the Broncos still have several tough games remaining, including two to end the season against Londonderry and Central. South has bounced back from a 1-4 start to win seven of its last eight and the Panthers can put points on the board; the problem sometimes has been stopping opponents. Pembroke has the size, talent and experience to be a contender, but lack of speed has been a factor for the Spartans. Bedford is 11 points away from being 11-2 this season.

### Teams no one wants in first round

- Bishop Guertin/Bedford (7-6)
- Merrimack (6-6)
- Trinity (6-6)
- Manchester Memorial (5-5)
- Exeter (4-8)

Bishop Guertin is a lot like South in that it can put up points, the big difference is the Cardinals don't have much size. Bishop Guertin and Bedford will meet in the final game of the regular season that could be for a home playoff game. Despite losing its core from last year's runner-up, Merrimack has played everyone tough this season and is a few breaks away from being in the upper echelon. Trinity, Memorial and Exeter are all teams that have the talent to pull off a first-round upset.
