Boys hockey rankings for Jan. 30

While the top two teams in the state rankings stayed the same, there was quite a bit of turnover in the rest of this week's top 10.

Concord and Bishop Guertin held on to the top two spots, respectively, while Bedford and Keene each moved up one spot to third and fourth. Dover, which suffered its first loss of the regular season, dropped to No. 5, while three new teams - Bishop Brady, Merrimack and Hanover - moved into the top 10.

Here are the complete rankings, which will be updated every week during the regular season.

How the rankings are done

We took the NHIAA’s football rating system, and gave it a little tweak. Instead of 10 points for a win, we weighted the wins by division, giving 12 for a win over a D1 team, 10 for a win over D2 and eight for a win over D3, and half the points for a tie. Plus, every team got two points for a win by a beaten opponent and half the points for a tie. The two point totals were added together and divided by the number of games played.
