Boys hockey rankings for Feb. 6

Saturday is a day many hockey fans in New Hampshire have had circled on the calendar for a while.

The schedule brings two games between top five teams, as No. 1 Concord hosts No. 2 Bedford at 3:30 p.m. at Everett Arena. Concord is the top team in the rankings for the third week in a row, while Bedford jumped over Bishop Guertin for the second spot. Those two teams will meet up on Wednesday.

Also in the top five are Keene, which stayed at No. 4, and Bow, which moved up one spot to fifth. Those two will meet up at 2:30 in Keene.

Here are the top teams in the state and in each division. Rankings will be updated every Saturday during the regular season.

How the rankings are done

We took the NHIAA’s football rating system, and gave it a little tweak. Instead of 10 points for a win, we weighted the wins by division, giving 12 for a win over a D1 team, 10 for a win over D2 and eight for a win over D3, and half the points for a tie. Plus, every team got two points for a win by a beaten opponent and half the points for a tie. The two point totals were added together and divided by the number of games played.
