The Bishop Guertin High School boys hockey team is back in the top spot in the state-wide rankings.

The Cardinals jumped over Concord, thanks in part to Monday's bit win over Malden Catholic, and returned to the No. 1 position for the second time this season. The Crimson Tide moved down to No. 2.

The rest of the top five remained the same, with Bedford (No. 3), Bow (No. 4) and Merrimack (No. 5) holding their ground.

Here are the state rankings, followed by the rankings for each division. Rankings will be updated every week during the regular season.

### How the rankings are done

We took the NHIAA’s football rating system, and gave it a little tweak. Instead of 10 points for a win, we weighted the wins by division, giving 12 for a win over a D1 team, 10 for a win over D2 and eight for a win over D3, and half the points for a tie. Plus, every team got two points for a win by a beaten opponent and half the points for a tie. The two point totals were added together and divided by the number of games played.
