# Bishop Guertin's Sherburne, Merrimack's Gendron earn Gatorade basketball honors

Bishop Guertin's Jamie Sherburne was named the Gatorade New Hampshire Player of the Year for girls basketball.

Two Greater Nashua area high school basketball players received Gatorade New Hampshire Player of the Year honors.

Merrimack's Eric Gendron and Bishop Guertin's Jamie Sherburne were named the best boys and girls basketball players in the state by Gatorade for the 2012-13 season.

Merrimack's Eric Gendron was named Gatorade's New Hampshire Player of the Year for boys basketball.

Gendron helped the Tomahawks to a 13-5 regular season record despite losing a number of players from a team that won the Division I championship the year before. The junior averaged 19.7 points per game, tops in Division I, and twice scored more than 30 points in a game.

"Eric Gendron has been such a huge part of all the success we had this season," Merrimack High head coach Tim Goodridge said in a press release. "He has become a true leader on and off the court and he also happens to be one of the nicest kids I have ever coached."

Gendron is following in his older brother's footsteps, as Tyler Gendron was named the Gatorade Player of the Year last season.

Sherburne, also a junior, helped lead the Cardinals to their second straight Division I championship, going 20-2\. A point guard who has already committed to Niagara Univeristy, Sherburne was also named to the Nike U17 National Championship All-Tournament Team in the summer of 2012 as a member of the NH Rivals AAU team.

This season, Sherburne averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.

"Jamie is a dynamic player who drives that team," Winnacunnet coach Cassie Turcotte said. "She is also just as tough defensively as she is offensively. She bothers players and creates turnovers."

Sherburne is the first girls player from Bishop Guertin to win the award.
