Bishop Guertin stays undefeated with big win over Bedford

BEDFORD – Goals were not hard to come by for the Bishop Guertin High School girls lacrosse team on Monday.

The Cardinals scored almost two dozen of them – the third time this season they’ve netted more than 20 – in a 22-4 win over Bedford in Division II action.

Kristi Purington led BG (6-0) with five goals and five assists while Julia Wright had four goals and two helpers and Morgan Karanasios had three goals and an assist.

Bedford (0-4) was led by Demi Bennett, who had three goals, while Alexandria Fink also scored for the Bulldogs.

“I thought they played pretty well. It took us a few minutes to pull together,” BG coach Ron Cote said. “We don’t practice or do anything on Sunday’s, so it’s always a little tricky with these Monday games. After shaking off a little bit of day-off rust, we started connecting pretty well.”

The Cardinals led 10-1 at halftime, but their flurry of goals really started in the second half. Through the first 11-plus minutes of the half, BG scored nearly a goal per minute, stretching the lead to 18-3 with 13:25 left in the game.

Rosie Buchanan and Tiffany Stanton each had two goals and an assist while Callie Santos and Allie Solms had a goal and an assist apiece.

BG returns to action on April 28 against Con-Val.
