Bishop Guertin solidifies hold on top spot in this week's New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Football Coaches Poll
The Cardinals pick up 18 of 19 first-place votes to remain in the top spot this week.
The Bishop Guertin High School football team got a convincing win last week over Exeter and then took a convincing hold of the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll.
The Cardinals received 18 of 19 first-place votes to come in at No. 1 for the second week in a row. Winnacunnet, which received the other first-place vote, moved up a spot to No. 2 in the poll, edging out Salem.
Bishop Guertin will host Nashua South on Saturday night, while Winnacunnet, which thumped Timberlane last week, goes on the road Friday to take on Dover. Salem, which was on a bye, will take its No. 3 ranking into a home game against Concord on Friday.
Londonderry remained at No. 4 after shutting out Windham while Pinkerton jumped two spots to round out the top five following its win over Bedford. Both teams go to Manchester on Friday, as the Lancers will take on Central and the Astros will face Memorial.
Exeter held on to the No. 6 spot despite the loss to Bishop Guertin, while Windham moved up a spot to No. 7, despite its loss to Londonderry. The Blue Hawks remain on the road with a game Friday at Timberlane while the Jaguars will play their first home Saturday against Alvirne.
Following its loss to Pinkerton, Bedford dropped three spots to No. 8, while Concord, after a win over Alvirne, held on at No. 9. Portsmouth-Oyster River moved into the poll for the first time this season, coming in at No. 10 following its win over Memorial.
The Bulldogs will go out of state to take on Thornton Academy, of Saco, Maine, on Saturday while the Crimson Tide travel to Salem and the ClipperCats host Spaulding. Both those games are on Friday.
