It would have been tough for Bishop Guertin High School to find a boys basketball coach with a resume that could top that of Jim Migneault, but it appears the Cardinals have done just that.

Matt Regan will be the program's next head coach this season, according to a press release sent out late Friday afternoon by Bishop Guertin athletic director Pete Palladino.

> "We are very excited to welcome Matt to BG," said Peter Palladino. "We had several good, qualified candidates apply and in the search process, Matt rose to the top. He is a very disciplined coach, a proven commodity in the New Hampshire coaching ranks and has an outstanding track record."

Migneault, who [resigned in early July](https://www.nh-highschoolsports.com/migneault-resigns-bishop-guertin-boys-basketball-head-coach/) after nine years coaching the Cardinals, led the team to three final fours, two title games and the 2011 Division I championship.

In his last two years at Pelham, Regan led the Pythons to a 43-1 record and back-to-back Division III championships. In six years as the head coach, Regan's teams were 110-33.

> "I am so pumped up right now," Regan said. "I love the idea of being able to coach at Bishop Guertin and to be the coach at BG for the remainder of my coaching career. I think I can do big things at BG."

Along with coaching at Pelham, Regan was also a player and junior varsity coach before taking over the varsity program in 2010\. The move to Bishop Guertin [could have a huge effect](http://www.nhsportspage.com/news%5Farticle/show/690705?referrer%5Fid=2584019&ref=nh-highschoolsports.com) on the rest of Division I in the near future, according the New Hampshire Sports Page's Dave Haley.

> "This is a hire that will not go unnoticed across a close knit Division I coaching fraternity. With its ability to draw students outside of Nashua to the school (the 2011 title team was led by Connor Green from Bedford and Sean McClung from Merrimack) and its close proximity to the Massachusetts border BG is s sleeping giant. Adding a coach with a reputation as one of the best young coaches in the state is a big hire for the basketball program."

The Division I boys basketball season begins on Dec. 16.
