NASHUA - The Bishop Guertin High School girls lacrosse team has focused on the process that will lead to success in the early portion of this season.

That focus Thursday night helped the Cardinals get a big win over a rival and helped one player reach an individual milestone.

Bishop Guertin made the most of its possession time at the start of the game, going up early and never letting up in a 17-5 win over Pinkerton at Stellos Stadium.

Leading the way for the Cardinals (3-0) was senior Lindsay Hult, who had four goals and an assist, including her 100th career point. Rylee Bouvier also had four goals and an assist and Nat Coutu had a goal and five assists as Bishop Guertin got out to a 5-0 advantage in the first half and led 8-1 at halftime.

"(Hult) has been a huge asset to the program since Day 1," Bishop Guertin coach Leslie Why said. "We know where everybody is and we talked a lot before this game about not focusing on scoring goals or winning games, but focusing on the process. For Lindsay, it was focusing on a particular roll and finish. Focus on that and the points will come."

Amelia Piercy and Madison Keating added three goals apiece and Katie Campel had two goals while Makenna Reekie had six saves, including a handful early that helped Bishop Guertin keep Pinkerton off the board.

The Astros (3-1) were getting possession early - Pinkerton held a 13-11 edge in draws on the night - and hanging on to the ball, but they were unable to break through until the Cardinals already had a five-goal lead.

"We started with one approach (Thursday) and we thought we could hedge that and push a little more," Why said. "We had success with it. We have a whole bank of defenders ready to come in."

Abby Jowett had two goals for Pinkerton while Allison Lamphere, Caroline Daziel and Caitlyn Seleny each had a goal. Lauren Sweeney made five saves.

"We were winning a good part of the game, we just weren’t finishing," Pinkerton coach Rob Daziel said. "They are a collection of a lot of talent. Early on, we had some goals that were taken away. We hit the pipe a few times. I think it would have been a different game. The game was a little more balanced than the score showed."

Bouvier and Hult gave Bishop Guertin a 2-0 lead 5:18 into the game. Pinkerton had chances to answer, but was unable to break through the Cardinals' defense.

At the other end, Bishop Guertin was able to score despite a solid effort by the Astros' defense. Keating made it 3-0 with 14:33 left in the half and Bouvier added another goal just 12 seconds later.

"Rylee Bouvier’s shot selection and her accuracy has improved tremendously," Why said. "Of the 10 shots she takes, six or seven go in now, and before it was a lower percentage.

"Lindsay, we’ve been working on driving one way and then rolling, but when they started calling her on the rolling, which looked like a charge, she adjusted and then took the ball to the cage."

Hult scored with 17:06 remaining to make it a 13-3 lead for the Cardinals and send the game into running time, and the senior added another goal 3:01 later to get her 100th career point.

The teams will meet against on May 5 for a 5:30 p.m. start in Derry.
