Bishop Guertin boys lacrosse starts fast, holds off Nashua South

NASHUA - Alex Astarita and Nick Prunier provided all the offense the Bishop Guertin High School boys lacrosse team would need Thursday and the Cardinals held off Nashua South in the second half to win 16-5 at Stellos Stadium.

Astarita had six goals and three assists, all in the first half, as Bishop Guertin (9-1) built a 14-2 lead at halftime. Prunier added two goals and two assists, while Jordan Caito and John Bruno also had two goals each.

The Cardinals opened the game with two goals in the first 30 seconds, but the Panthers (3-4) hung in there and were down 7-2 early in the second quarter. But penalties and turnovers proved to be too much and Bishop Guertin closed the half on a 7-0 run.

Brian McKinley made 16 saves for South while Steve Saucier had three goals and Sean Holland and Dylan Gamache had a goal each.

South returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Merrimack at 6 p.m. at Stellos Stadium. Bishop Guertin is off until Monday, when it heads to Pinkerton for a 4 p.m. start.
