Bishop Guertin, Alvirne to meet in girls semis

Both the Bishop Guertin and Alvirne High School girls tennis teams won their opening match Wednesday of the Division I playoffs and will meet in the semifinals on Friday.

The No. 1 Cardinals defeated No. 8 Nashua South, sweeping the Panthers 9-0. Bishop Guertin (15-0) got singles wins from Jennifer Dai, Katie Wong, Lauren Hayward, Elizabeth DiCesare, Julia Filler and Allison Murphy.

No. 4 Alvirne (13-2) needed to win two doubles matches to defeat No. 5 Salem 5-4. Deanna Trearchis and Nicole Wilcox won the No. 1 match 8-6, while Kate Martin and Yashaswani Moparthi took the No. 2 match 8-1.

The Cardinals and the Broncos will meet in the semifinals at Bishop Guertin at 4 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals won the regular-season match 7-2.
