# Bedford holds off Pinkerton to keep top spot in New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll

The Bedford High School football team opened its season with a win and held on to the top spot in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll ... barely.

For the second poll in a row, the Bulldogs received 10 first-place votes and came in at No. 1, but the gap between Bedford and No. 2 Pinkerton got a lot smaller. The Astros received six first-place votes, and whichever team was in the top spot on a poll, the other was second.

The next seven places in the poll also remained the same, with Nashua South holding on to No. 3 and Londonderry coming in at No. 4\. Exeter rounded out the top five, holding off Salem by just a point, with the Blue Devils taking No. 6 .

Bishop Guertin was close behind at No. 7 and Souhegan remained the lone Division II team in the top 10 at No. 8\. Manchester Memorial came in at No. 9 for the second week in a row.

Portsmouth-Oyster River joined the top 10 for the first time, coming in at No. 10 after its season-opening win against Dover. The ClipperCats bumped Windham from the final spot.

Here is the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Football Coaches Poll for this week. These are the top 10 football teams in the state, with record, first-place votes/points (T=tie) and last week's ranking.

2. Pinkerton (1-0), 6/150, 2nd
3. Nashua South (1-0), 126, 3rd
4. Londonderry (1-0), 107, 4th
5. Exeter (1-0), 75, 5th
6. Salem (1-0), 74, 6th
7. Bishop Guertin (1-0), 72, 7th
8. Souhegan (1-0), 40, 8th
9. Manchester Memorial (1-0), 31, 9th
10. Portsmouth-Oyster River (1-0), 12, NR

**Dropped out:** Windham.

**Others receiving votes:** Winnacunnet (1-0), 10; Windham (0-1), 7; Concord (0-1), 5; Pelham (1-0), 5; Plymouth (1-0), 3; Trinity (1-0), 3; Campbell (1-0), 2; Manchester West (1-0), 1; Timberlane (0-1), 1; Nashua North (1-0), 1.
