NASHUA - Christine Hodgdon was hoping to see a little bit more intensity Saturday from her starting lineup when the Bedford High School girls lacrosse team took on Nashua North.

The Bulldogs coach got that, and then some, from her entire team, as Bedford got out in front quickly and held off the Titans for a 17-8 win in a Division I game at Stellos Stadium.

Kennedy Boyle led the way for the Bedford offense with five goals and three assists while Hannah McCarthy added three goals and two helpers and Mackenzie Chou (assist) and Brooke Burton also had three goals each. The Bulldogs also got two goals and an assist from Mackenzie MacLaren and a goal from Maddie Graves, while Emily Burton made four saves.

"I felt like our starters came out and were ready to go," Hodgdon said. "They were a little more focused than they were (Friday) against South. I thought we shared the ball well and were disciplined with the ball."

Bedford (2-0), which also scored 17 goals in a win Friday over Nashua South, led by as many as 11 in the second half before Nashua North chipped away at the lead. The Titans (1-2) scored four goals in a seven-minute span to get within 15-8 before the Bulldogs tacked on two more goals.

"We could have put our heads down and given up, but not one player did," North coach Chloe Audesse said. "It's always a good thing that they don't give up, no matter the team. I think they had a lot of nice plays. We could have a lot of sloppier shots, given the skill level of (Bedford)."

Danielle Upton and Kaylee Hubbard each had three goals to lead the Titans while Campbell Haller also had two goals and an assist.

North won the game's opening draw and got a shot on Burton in the first minute of the game, but the Bedford goalie made the save and the Bulldogs quickly went the other way. McCarthy scored at the other end just 48 seconds into the game, as Bedford scored five times in the first six minutes.

Boyle had two of those early goals, and then added two more in a span of 26 seconds to put the Bulldogs up 7-1 midway through the first half.

"We can expect that she's going to score goals and she's going to dominate on the draw," Hodgdon said of Boyle. "But her leadership is the key piece to this. She knows what it looks like and what it takes to get there. One thing we're counting on is her leadership, to keep everyone grounded and focused."

The Bulldogs took an 11-4 lead into halftime and scored the first four goals of the second half to start the running clock.

But as Bedford started working on rotations and substitutions, the Titans were able to make a bit of a run. Two goals by Hubbard made it 15-6 with 10:17 to play, and then two more from Hallar made it a seven-goal game with 5:28 remaining.

"Definitely using my bench created some ebbs and flows during the game," Hodgdon said. "I feel like we have two or three good subs on the bench who can provide depth and a break for us. The rotation I'm still working on, and figuring how that's going to work, for some of the bigger games down the road."
