Not when the Bedford High School coach knew her team would have already faced some of the top teams in the division, including last year's finalists Pinkerton and Bishop Guertin, by this point. But with four games left, and after a pair of one-goal wins over the Astros and Cardinals, the Bulldogs sit at 13-0, at the top of the Division I standings and as the only undefeated girls team left in the state. "We have to be super humble about where we're at right now," Hodgdon said. "There's no way I ever thought we'd be at where we are at. We're playing some high-quality programs." It's also the same spot the Bulldogs where in a year ago, when they ended up as the top seed in the division, but lost to Pinkerton in the semifinals. While Bedford hasn't thought about what being the No. 1 seed would mean again this year, Hodgdon feels that the experience of failing to make the final has been a big factor for some of the younger players. That includes sophomores Sydney Lynch, Hannah McCarthy and Grace Rooney, who all contributed as freshmen a year ago. "They got a lot of playing time last year and came back with a different presence," Hodgdon said. "They came back with confidence and they knew what to expect. That was a piece that I was looking forward to from last year to this year." Having that experience from Lynch and McCarthy, combined with the leadership and talent that senior Kennedy Boyle brings to the table, has given Bedford one of the most potent offenses in the state. The Bulldogs have averaged 16.4 goals per game this season and have scored less than that just three times all year - a season-low 12 against Bishop Guertin and the first win over Londonderry, along with a 14-goal output against Merrimack. That, combined with a defense that has allowed double digit goals just three times all year - the 15 Pinkerton scored last Friday was a season high - has led to a balanced performance for most of the season for Bedford. "We knew coming in that it'd be about chemistry and sharing the ball," Hodgdon said. "We've focused on that a lot this season. We do have depth and talent, and to beat good teams, we have to share the ball and have that chemistry." It's helped Bedford to have a player like Lynch, who has a game that is so comparable to Boyle, the senior hasn't had to carry as much of the load this season. "(Kennedy) doesn't have to be the workhorse so much," Hodgdon said. "She can share the load and the responsibilities a little bit more, knowing that there are other players. When you look at the two of them, their stats on paper, they do all the jobs really quietly. They'll come up with the groundball or a great defensive play. They'll come up with good feeds and they're very poised." Bedford faces a tough week, with Winnacunnet (9-1 in Division II) coming to town on Monday, followed by a game against Souhegan (10-2) on Friday. In between, the Bulldogs play at Manchester Central (4-9) and finish the season at home against Concord (6-4) on May 23.
