Bedford girls beat H/B to reach semis

BEDFORD - The Bedford High School girls tennis team swept the singles matches on the way to an 8-1 win over Hollis/Brookline in the Division II quarterfinals Wednesday.

Kathleen HoSang took the No. 1 singles match for the No. 1 Bulldogs (14-1), beating H/B's Naomi Jefferson 8-1, while Jacinda Williams won the No. 2 match for Bedford, winning 8-1 over Julia Stopera.

Stopera and Jefferson captured the lone win for the No. 8 Cavaliers (11-4), beating Williams and Jennifer Cutliffe 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles match.

Bedford's Mackenzie Phelps got the win at the No. 3 match, besting Caroline Barrett 8-1, and Stephanie Johnson took the No. 4 match 8-0 over Samantha Razzaboni. Phelps and Johnson also beat Barrett and Razzaboni 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles match.

Cutliffe won the No. 5 match, knocking off Kelsey Tulley 8-1, and Ellen Wheeler beat Lauren Geutling 8-3 in the No. 6 match.

Wheeler and Katherine Downer defeated Laura Sercel and Taylor Owens 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles match.

Bedford advances to the Division II semifinals, where the Bulldogs will face No. 4 Hanover on Friday at 4 p.m. The teams met once during the regular season, with Bedford taking a 5-4 win.
