The Bulldogs finally got it on Tuesday. From one end of the field to the other, for an entire 48 minutes, Bedford was on top of its game, as the Bulldogs cruised past Souhegan 15-5 in a Division I game. Max Manniello led the offense with four goals while goalie Matthew Desmond made nine saves, six of them in the first quarter when things were still tight, and Owen Roberto helped Bedford (6-1, No. 6 in NHHSS Coaches Poll) win 11 of the game's first 14 faceoffs. "I’m really happy with the way we came out," Johansmeyer said. "We started to put it together. It started with Matt Desmond in the goal, Owen Roberto at the faceoff X and it translated through offensively and defensively. I was happy with the way they came in at the start and took care of business all the way through." Connor Arbusto, Will Kramer and Derek Kulesza had two goals apiece for the Bulldogs while Derek Greer, Evan Schmitt, Magnus Steele, Andrew McGee and Elijah Gregson also had a goal each. With Desmond and Souhegan goalie Nate Fritz (13 saves) stopping shots early in the game, Bedford had just a 1-0 lead for most of the first quarter. But Kramer, Arbusto and Manneillo all scored in the final two minutes of the quarter to make it a 4-0 game going into the second. "Fritz played really well the whole game," Souhegan coach Keith Bertrand said. "It’s probably the best game he played all year. Even when it was 1-0, they were hitting a bunch of pipes and we were treading water. They put a couple in." The Sabers (1-4, No. 10) got two goals each from Riley Lawhorn and Alex Karpawich while Connor Holland also had a goal. Lawhorn's first score made it 5-1 Bedford with 2:07 left in the first half but the Bulldogs scored twice in the final minute to take a 7-1 lead into halftime. The second of those goals came with 16.5 to go, just 13 seconds after Bedford went a manup; the Bulldogs were 4 for 5 with the advantage on the day. "I think they were (4 for 5) on the manup for the game," Bertrand said. "We’re thin as it is and guys are taking stupid penalties in the middle of the field. It puts us behind the eight ball." The toughest one for Souhegan came late in the third quarter. Bedford stretched the lead to 9-2 but back-to-back goals by Karpawich and Holland in just 16 seconds got the lead down to five with 4:42 left in the quarter. But right after the faceoff, Will Boyle was flagged for a penalty and 17 seconds later, Kramer scored to make it 10-4 Bulldogs. Bedford added two more goals before the end of the frame to make it 12-4 going into the fourth. "It was great to be able to see us battle a little adversity and take that head on," Johansmeyer said. "Get over the top of it in the right way. In a couple of games in the past, we’ve faced that adversity and had trouble getting through it. "We picked our moments wisely. We had some good ball movement and broke them down with that ball movement and took advantage of our opportunities." The two teams will meet against at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bedford.
