# Bedford boys hockey shoots for third D2 title in a row

The Bedford boys hockey team hopes its celebrating a third-straight championship a week from Saturday.

The Bedford High School boys hockey team is three games away from a perfect season and a third-straight Division II championship. Can anyone stop the Bulldogs?

Spaulding had the best shot during the regular season, losing 5-4 in overtime. Bow lost to Bedford twice, 4-2 and 4-1, while Merrimack and Dover also had two-goal games against the Bulldogs.

Only time will tell if Bedford can complete the perfect season, but there's no question the Bulldogs were the best in the regular season, scoring the most goals in the division and allowing the fewest.

Here's a look at the quarterfinal matchups.

### Quarterfinals: Saturday, March 8

- **No. 9 Lebanon (8-10-1) at No. 1 Bedford (18-0), 11:30 a.m. at Sullivan Arena:** Lebanon made it out of the preliminary round Wednesday with a 3-1 win over No. 8 Oyster River. The Raiders played Bedford once, back on Jan. 11, and lost 5-2\. Lebanon is led by Tate Singleton, who was 10th in the division with 28 points, better than any Bedford player. But the Bulldogs had five players with 14 points or more, led by Nate Boyd's 13 goals and 13 assists, and Bedford also has one of the top goalies in the state in Stevan Tempesta, who was the starter for both of Bedford's championship teams.
- **No. 5 Pelham-Windham (14-4) at No. 4 Spaulding (14-4), 8 p.m. at Dover Arena:** Pelham-Windham ended the regular season on a tear, winning eight of its final nine games. But that lone loss was a 5-1 setback against Spaulding, which lost two of its final three, and is the reason the Red Raiders are hosting the game. The trio of Dustin Lubinger, Bryce Blanchard and Chad Desautels lead the Pelham-Windham offense, as all three have scored 10 or more goals this season. Brent Phillips has been a scoring machine for Spaulding this year, as he's first in the division with 29 goals and second in points with 43.
- **No. 7 Merrimack (11-8) at No. 2 Dover (15-3), 4 p.m. at Dover Arena:** Merrimack started what it hopes will be a playoff run with a 6-1 win over No. 10 Kingswood on Wednesday in the preliminary round. After a slow start, the Tomahawks finished year winning seven of their final 10 games, thanks in part to the offense of Shane Foye, Ryan Downie and Mark Feeney. Dover features the division's top point scorer in Cam Crowley, who had 27 goals and 44 points this season. These two teams met in the final in 2011, and with Bedford, have been the only teams to reach the finals in the last three years.
- **No. 6 Goffstown (13-5) at No. 3 Bow (14-3-1):** On paper, this appears to be a mismatch. Goffstown had just one player finish with over 20 points this season in Mason Mable (14 goals, 23 points), while Bow had two players - Jake Rand and Chris Fournier - combine for 41 goals and 76 points. And when the teams met in the regular season, the Falcons were 6-0 winners. And starting with that win, Bow is 5-0-1 in its final six games.

**Most likely upset:** It will take a near-perfect game and perhaps a mistakes or two by No. 2 Dover, but No. 7 Merrimack seems to be the most likely road team to get a win. The Green Wave beat the 'Hawks by a 3-2 count during the regular season, in a game that was also played at the Dover Arena, and Dover needed a third period goal to get the win.

**Quarterfinal winners:** No. 1 Bedford, No. 4 Spaulding, No. 2 Dover, No. 3 Bow.

**Championship game:** Bedford over Bow.
