Around the Granite State: Portsmouth field hockey stays hot in win over Derryfield (video)

Charlotte Marston scored three goals and added an assist Tuesday to help lead the Portsmouth High School field hockey team to a 6-1 win over Derryfield in a Division II contest.

Sam Ruel and Maggie Conklin added a goal and an assist each for the Clippers (2-0, No. 6 in the NHHSSports Coaches Poll), who have scored six goals in each of their first two games. Audrey Walsh also scored while Darla Mahoney, Mia Edwards and Clara Daw had an assist each.

Samara Buck finished with 10 saves for Portsmouth, including a save on a penalty stroke by Derryfield's Kira Geddes.

Kennedy Overhoff had the lone goal for the Cougars (0-1), as she scored on a stroke with 5:16 left in the game. Jess Avalon made six saves for Derryfield.

Lebanon 4, Milford 1

Lauren Jasper scored for the Spartans (1-1), but it wasn't enough in a loss to the Raiders. Chloe Marchand made eight saves for Milford.

The game was called in the fourth quarter due to weather.

St. Thomas 1, Newfound 0

The Saints opened the season with a win, getting the game's only goal from Abbie Gaynor, while Kensely Harris earned the shutout in goal.

Hollis Brookline 4, Souhegan 1

Parker Cheyenne scored two goals for the Cavaliers as they opened the D2 season with a win over the Sabers.

Ryan Wisbey also had a goal and Jesse Gertz had an assist for HB while Owen Ford made four saves.

Joe Bernasconi had the lone goal for the Sabers, off an assist from Mike Erickson, and Finnegan Daly made nine saves.
