Around the Granite State: Pinkerton, Souhegan field hockey end up tied
Here are results from Monday's high school field hockey action.
DERRY - The Pinkerton Academy and Souhegan High School field hockey teams both scored in the final three minutes of regulation Monday to send the game to overtime and they finished in a 3-3 tie.
Cayden Madeiros scored three goals for the Astros (1-0-1, No. 1 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll). Meaghan Shea added an assist and Molly Kuncik had six saves.
Mariellah Dart had a goal and an assist for the Sabers (1-0-1, No. 3) while Eme Godin and Ella Russell also had a goal each. Olivia Harrison made seven saves.
Pinkerton scored just 2:17 into the game to take the lead but Souhegan tied the game just 1:17 into the second quarter. The Sabers went in front with 12:41 to go in the third quater, but the Astros tied the game 2-2 on a penalty corner with no time left.
The game stayed tied until Russell deflected a shot by Dart in with 3:00 left in regulation for a 3-2 Souhegan lead. But Pinkerton tied it back up with 1:25 remaining when a shot by Shea was stopped by Harrison and Madeiros collected the rebound and scored.
The Astros had a chance for the win early in overtime but Harrison made another stop. The Sabers had the only corner of the extra frame, but couldn't capitalize, and a shot by Russell with two seconds left was just wide of the goal.
No. 9 Bishop Guertin 2, Concord 1
The Cardinals picked up their first win of the season on the road against the Crimson Tide.
Kaylee Cruikshank and Devyn Amico each had a goal for Bishop Guertin (1-1) while Emerson McCarthy and Shayne Amico each had an assist. Emma Smith recorded one save.
No. 4 Keene 5, Merrimack 1
Scarlett Miller had four goals and an assist to lead the Blackbirds past the Tomahawks.
Natalia Gillis also scored for Keene (1-0) and Lola Ballaro had an assist. Dayna English finished five saves in the win.
Merrimack (0-1) got its goal from Grace Massey while Ava Woods and Allie Wyand recorded assists.
No. 6 Londonderry 1, No. 8 Dover 0
Gemma Murray had the lone goal of the game to get the Lancers the win over the Green Wave.
Sadie Moore and Abby Chambers had an assist on the goal for Londonderry (1-0) and Molly Tharrington finished with eight saves.
Scarlett Gray had eight saves to lead Dover (1-1).
No. 2 Winnacunnet 6, Goffstown 1
McKinley Fowler had two goals to help lead the Warriors to a win over the Grizzlies.
Julia Kouloheras, Fiona McAfee, Emily Arlington and Megan Kelly added a goal apiece.
Salem 2, Nashua South 1
Kenzie Marino and Lia Bokuniewicz each had a goal to lead the Blue Devils to win over the Panthers.
Averie Bolduc had an assist for Salem (1-0) and Nathalia Garcia played well and Bradley Thompson was strong on defense.
Bella Hwalek scored the lone goal for South (0-1) while Lilly Hurd made four saves. Molly Mullaney, Maddie Langer, Sofia Forti, Isabelle Picanco and Emme Christian also played well.
No. 5 Bedford 1, Windham 0 (OT)
The Jaguars fell at home to the Bulldogs in overtime in the opener for both teams.
Bree Venis made two defensive saves for Windham while Meg Hallisey, Grace Corbett, Emma Adamske, Emme Mulrenan and Laikyn Reeners also played well.
