DERRY - Jacob Albert rushed for three touchdowns, but it was his fumble recovery on defense that sealed a 28-27 victory for the Pinkerton Academy football team Saturday against Windham.
Albert finished with 125 yards on the ground and his three scores helped the Astros (1-0) build a 21-0 lead with 4:16 left in the second quarter. The senior also had an interception that set up his second touchdown and recovered a fumble to end the Jaguars' attempt to take the lead late.
Cole Yennaco added 92 yards rushing and a touchdown, as he scored with 1:16 left in the third quarter after Windham (0-1) had come back to tie the game at 21. Pinkerton had 183 of its 71 yards on offense in the fist half and only picked up two first downs in the second half.
The Jaguars were led by Tiger An, who had 139 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 26 carries, and Josh Sweeney, who had 88 yards on the ground. Sweeney also connected with Bryan Desmarais for a 19-yard touchdown on the final play of the first half to cut Pinkerton's lead to 21-7 at the break.
Windham gained 247 of its 312 yards in the second half and had 14 first downs after halftime, including 12 rushing.

Matt Santosuosso had a hand in four touchdowns to help lead the Cardinals (1-0) past the Panthers in their season opener.
The senior quarterback rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns and completed 5 of 10 passes for 60 yards, including touchdown passes to Connor Guibord and Gavin Bombara. Charlie Bellavance added 84 yards on the ground and Ethan Labbe had 27 yards and a touchdown rushing.
South (0-1) got a solid performance from senior quarterback Karsten Lemire, who was making his first start at the position. He finished 19 of 29 passing for 162 yards and also ran for 51 yards, while Keith O'Donnell caught six passes for 50 yards and Kyle Emmons had five catches for 57 yards.
Damien Perez had the Panthers' lone score, rushing for a 3-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
