Around the Granite State: Milford field hockey opens with win
The Milford High School field hockey team picked up a win Friday in its first game of the year, outlasting a lightning delay to beat Laconia 5-3 on the road.

Mairead Kirby scored two goals and had an assist for lead the Spartans (1-0) while freshman Willa Audley got a goal and two assists in her first varsity game. Chloe Houston added a goal and an assist while Lauren Jasper had a goal and Maura St. Onge added an assist.
Chloe Marchand made six saves for Milford, which will play at Lebanon on Tuesday.

The Clippers (1-0, No. 6 in the NHHSSports Coaches Poll) opened their D2 title defense with a big win over the Bobcats.
Charlotte Martson had three goals and an assist while Mia Edmonds had two goals and Darla Mahoney had two assists. Audrey Walsh also scored for Portsmouth and Emma Biddle and Sydney Moreau each had an assist.
